How can we blame it all on guns?

This is Dave Young's Forum.
Can you really bridge the gap between reality and training? Between traditional karate and real world encounters? Absolutely, we will address in this forum why this transition is necessary and critical for survival, and provide suggestions on how to do this correctly. How can we blame it all on guns?

Post by gmattson »

Tracy Rose sent this to me. Although I don't agree with every comment, I like most of the statement. How about you? GEM

Paul Harvey read this, Letter to the Editor, on his news cast after the Littleton tragedy.

How can we blame it all on guns?

Editor:

For the life of me, I can't understand what could have gone wrong in Littleton, Colo. If only the parents had kept their children away from the guns, we wouldn't have had such a tragedy.

Yeah, it must have been the guns.

It couldn't have been because of half our children being raised in broken homes.

It couldn't have been because our children get to spend an average of 30 seconds in meaningful conversation with their parents each day. After all, we give our children quality time.

It couldn't have been because we treat our children as pets and our pets as children.

It couldn't have been because we place our children in day care centers where they learn their socialization skills among their peers under the law of the jungle while employees who have no vested interest in the children look on and make sure that no blood is spilled.

It couldn't have been because we allow our children to watch, on average, seven hours of television a day filled with the glorification of sex and violence that isn't fit for adult consumption.

It couldn't have been because we allow our children to enter into virtual worlds in which, to win the game, one must kill as many
opponents as possible in the most sadistic way possible.

It couldn't have been because we have sterilized and contracepted our families down to sizes so small that the children we do have are so spoiled with material things that they come to equate the receiving of the material with love.

It couldn't have been because our children, who historically have been seen as a blessing from God, are now being viewed as either a mistake created when contraception fails or inconveniences that parents try to raise in their spare time.

It couldn't have been because our nation is the world leader in developing a culture of death in which 20 million to 30 million
babies have been killed by abortion.

It couldn't have been because we give two-year prison sentences to teen-agers who kill their newborns.

It couldn't have been because our school systems teach the children that they are nothing but glorified apes who have evolutionized out of some primordial soup of mud by teaching evolution as fact and by handing out condoms as if they were candy.

It couldn't have been because we teach our children that there are no laws of morality that transcend us, that everything is relative and that actions don't have consequences. What the heck, the president gets away with it.

Nah, it must have been the guns.

Very telling, isn't it? Someone pointed out on another forum that children today are made to feel that the world revolves around them - and then when they f**k up, we slap them on the wrist and bring in a counselor to sooth their troubled psyche.

A few points to ponder :

1] ambulance chasing lawyers are reveling at the chance to represent towns in law suits against guns manufacturers !

2] guns make society safer ! They save cities far more tears and treasure than criminals with guns could ever cost !

3] award winning criminologist Gary Kleck , of Florida State university in a comprehensive study , concluded that Americans stop criminal attacks up to 2.5 millions times a year usually without firing a shot !

4] Evidence points to Americans using guns three to five times as often for defense purposes as for criminal purposes !

5] How many innocents aren't murdered , how many daughters aren't raped , how many storekeepers aren't robbed and how many pensioners aren't beaten to death simply because they own life saving tools , such as guns ?

6] A National Institute of justice survey of imprisoned felons found that the one thing criminals fear most isn't police , prosecution or imprisonment , __ but a victim who turns out to be armed !

7] So how many citizens aren't raped , murdered, robbed , or assaulted not because they are armed --- but because criminals cannot tell who is armed and who isn't ?

8] Researchers John Lott and David Mustard of the University of Chicago tried to find out by examining FBI crime statistics and discovered that States with the largest increase in gun ownership and "shall issue" right to carry concealed , have the greatest reduction /decline in violent crime , i.e., Florida !

9] If other States had adopted similar laws in 1992 , 1500 murders, 4000 rapes , 12,000 robberies , and 60,000 aggravated assaults could have been prevented EACH YEAR !

10] face the bottom line truth : the right to keep and bear arms makes citizens safer ; even the ones who are anti gun [ incurable hoplophobes] indirectly benefit from the safety engendered by the presence of firearms in our society !

Excellent response Van. Enforcing exisiting laws and holding people responsible for their actions is the answer.

How about making the news media responsible for inspiring 'copy cats' with all of the endless hype.

A poster , who has mysteriously disappeared , suggested that if both criminals and law abiding citizens could just pretend at carrying / using guns , there would be less killings !

That is of course a great concept only if the criminals would also agree to :

1] put away , long knives , baseball bats , razors, tire irons, ax handles , ice picks , broken bottles , claw hammers , pipe bombs , fertilizer bombs , machetes , hatchets etc.

2] not be born with overpowering physical size and strength to be used in overcoming less endowed physical specimen !

3] not to study martial arts which would gain them a fair advantage in an assault upon the innocents !

4] not to invade homes by sudden smashing of the front door in and be in your living room in a split second whipping you and your wife with motorcycle chains ….

Anymore ideas? …..

Do you still wander why the gun was called " The great equalizer " ??

Do you think you would be here today , living the soft life , but for the role of firearms in society ??
