People who do stupid things to their body.
Bill,
What is this guy able to look foward to in the future.
http://www.geocities.com/gregvalentinofanclub/
The reason I ask is that a kid in my neighborhood thinks this guy looks cool and, I'm hoping he was joking, said he was going to "pump" up.
Any info you can give me I am printing out to have this kid read it.

I have already shown the kid how it is just for stupid looks.
I walked him through how do do a basic Yoko-uchi (inside middle block) and then taped a softball to both of his biceps. The told him to do the block. His entire chest was a target and he could not block effectively. He could not even put his hands on his head.
Even after showing this to him he still thinks it would be a cool thing to do.
He may be doing this to get a rise out of me but he seems to be sincere.

Brett:
From a woman's point of view- The man displayed on the link you provided looks absolutely awefull. He looks as if he has been taking drugs to pump up his muscles which I happen to know that very few women find attractive. People who abuse their bodies in such a manner appear vain, insecure about who they are, and should be. Women want a man they can "cuddle up to" and this type of man doesn't appear to be cuddle-able at all. (emotionaly as well as physicaly) He looks as if he doesn't care one witt about who he is on the inside- physicaly or emotionaly. Physicaly he is setting himself up for severe pain later in life- not to mention what he's gone through to do that to himself in the present, and if he is willing to do that to himself, without any regard for his health, it is also quite apparent that he wouldn't care what would matter to a woman, emotionaly, which is where their attraction to men comes from.
Please tell the young man in question, that from a woman's point of view- the man in the link looks disgusting, and not worth getting to know, if he would treat himself so badly. He appears to be the kind of man who cares more about what "looks-cool to other men" whose judgment would be impaired for thinking it looks cool to abuse yourself in the first place.

Brett;
Let this young person know that if he really wants to look and be attractive to women, that he needs to work on what he is on the "inside" he needs to concentrate on "what women really want", which is an emotionaly sound, and giving man, someone to talk to without being made to feel stupid, someone who cares about who the woman IS, and NOT what she looks like - same would be true for another man actualy.
People who are kind, non-judgmental, compasionate, and humourous, get the "real" relationships - People who concentrate more on "fake" bodies, get "fake" relationships...In all ways- shapes and forms-

I agree with you Kerry.
He does not come from a very solid family, the dad is always gone and the mom dotes on his sister. I have tried to get him to go with me to karate but just doesn't seem too interested.
Tomorrow I will print this thread and let him read it.

While I find that kind of muscle really unattractive, I can't pretend to know why this man devotes such time, energy and whatever else it takes to have that size. Maybe it's to draw the attention that we are giving him right now. Perhaps he it's to have his picture posted on a web site, or to spark controversy. It's possible he just likes the way he looks. I don't know, and don't really care. I was told a long time ago not to "judge someone's insides by looking at their outsides"--perhaps not too eloquent, but sufficiently poignant for me.
All we can really do is provide people with good and accurate information on the positives and consequences of their decisions and hope for the best. Sometimes protesting too much only fuels their fire, anyway.

Mary-
I hope I didn't come across as judging someone's insides by their outsides... I was mearly trying to help the young man in question... I'm very against pre-judging anyone- though I also believe that realisticly- people do pre-judge a book by it's cover. It's very unfortunate. I'm sure the man in the picture is a very good person- though he isn't setting a very good "example" for other people - this young man becoming testament to that.

One look and it was obvious that this guy uses 'roids! (ummmm... steroids)
Brett, tell your friend that he might have huge muscles, but he's bound for the cancer ward and even though there is a short-term boost in sexual drive when using 'roids, the fact is that his wee-wee is gonna shrivel up and be useless in short order!
Sorry, but I'll be a "wuss" as far as my arms & legs go before I'll take any chances with the, ummmm... "muscle that truly counts to the ladies!"
(Apologies to the women on the forum for being so blunt... at least I tried to have a little tact!

We're looking at pictures of a competitive man who works insanely hard to be first at something.
It's not a goal that tempts me...but there are those who would say the work and and body punishment it takes to achieve a legitimate black belt is also insane.
No matter what your competitive goal, there will be someone who thinks it's wonderful and someone who thinks you're in need of serious therapy.
Suffice it to say he's made choices that I have not and will not make.

I believe the only way you can get muscles that size is to "pump" them up with silicone or other substance that can't be very healthy. You certainly don't get them from "pumping iron".
How does a responsible adult attempt to dissuade a youngster from admiring such efforts and worse, to try similar experimentations.

This reminds me of the cases we have seen over the years of some students falling off the "conditioning" curve, with some misguided ideation of becoming the toughest and untouchable in the streets. It's not a goal that tempts me...but there are those who would say the work and and body punishment it takes to achieve a legitimate black belt is also insane.

There is a difference between "training" and "punishing" your body. Espescially with such un-natural results. Training your body, is to help, condition, and enhance a natural process. Punishment hurts your body, produces a look that is not only un-healthy (by means of aquiring such a look) plus, if it looks un-naturla- it will "feel" un natural. Ya know- Who wants to hug somebody whose viens look like they will explode with a look let alone a touch.
I don't think training for a black belt- even aggresively could ever be considered "punishment" to your body. Karate- let alone Uechi-Ryu isn't designed to do that. Isn't that the whole point of the "conditioning" part of it? To "prepare" your body for the training, and a possible attack to your body? That seems like a great big "duh" to me LOL no offense meant by that comment-
Kerry
(either way you look at it- I don't think many women find an un-natural look like that attrative)

quote:
Synthol is a plumping oil that many bodybuilders inject into their muscles for extra size. Pretty much every bodybuilding magazine, web site, and discussion board accuses Greg of inflating his arms with Synthol.
Greg's a smart man and he's never commented on Synthol one way or the other. And he shouldn't. No good ever comes from discussing private issues in public.
Everyone has the right to shape his body however he wants. This topic has been covered to death on "body modification" forums. Greg obviously wants huge arms, so he gave himself huge arms.
Who cares how?
