With Respect Gene-
Grag is a full grown adult- he has the right and adult-experienced-judgment to make his own descisions. We were discussing this to help prevent a young adult- I presume under 18 from doing something to his body to look like Greg- that he might regret later. We weren't Dawging Greg- to be mean- we were all hoping to help this young man make a better descision than the one he started with- "It looks cool- I wanna do it"
Kerry-
Breast implants are also very invasive to the body and have been determined very un-healthy..... POP like "China" WWF

After looking at the photos of this guy, my first impression was revulsion, followed by confusion. Why would anyone go to such extremes to create such an outward appearance?
I guess with some people, they will do anything to be noticed...bad attention is better than no attention at all. This kinda reminds me of Marilyn Manson and his approach.
People put so much emphasis in the outer facade. What a shame....they say beauty is fleeting anyway. Can you imagine the caliber of person one could be if he/she could put forth as much effort to better the inside referring to the heart, soul, and spirit. That is worth so much more investment.
We all will physically and eventually fade, sag, and wrinkle sooner or later. I often come to love the 'imperfections' I find in others, unique to each individual. That is part of that person and their makeup. So what, your nose is big, your calves are genetically small, your chest is flat. People that carry such differences with confidence are far more alluring and makes you wonder, 'what is it about that person that makes them so sure of themself'. Now that, in my book, is attraction.

I can't help wondering why it is that a kid would be thinking along those lines.
Could it be " if I had those arms, that bully would never mess with me again?"
Or, "maybe if I had those arms, I'd get some respect in the schoolyard"?
Or " maybe I'd feel more worth something..."
you get the idea.
My thoughts are more: have a talk with this young fellow to see how things are going in his life, and if he seems to need boost in confidence, take him to the dojo some night and introduce him to the concept of real, internal power which is concealed in a normal body, but SHOW HIM what THAT body is capable of!
It wouldn't be the first time that the right impression at the right time (he's obviously primed) made all the difference, and put a kid on the path to being an outstanding person, practitioner and maybe future teacher or counsellor. NM

Sorry to come in late, but I think "Student" missed a point. I'm not an expert, but I do work with a former body building champion and I've talked to him about it some, and I've done a bunch of research for working out for the sports that I've played. From what I know, I don't think that guy could win a competitve body building contest. He doesn't seem to have even proportions, and while being big is a huge part of competive body building, have a complete package is more important than overall size. To me, he doesn't seem to have this.
Like everyone else said, it's his deal and if it makes him feel good about himself, than I really don't care. Of couse if he is doing injections, or steriods, then hopefully he's at least mature enough to understand what the long term risks are. Sadly too many folks don't and think that they'll be the exception rather than the rule.
As far as handling the school bully. I've started my son in Uechi-ryu early. Hopefully besides gaining the ability to defend himself, he'll have the self confidence which usually keeps bullies from picking on you. Bullies usually go after the weak, and don't want to mess with someone who isn't afraid of them.

Tom, I was not precise enough in stating what I truly meant - he may not be competing in contests, but he's got a goal and competing with someone, even if only with himself.
I think it's nuts. Someone, somewhere, thinks something that I do is nuts.
And we may both be right....

sorry to disagree with everybody but those forearms have nothing to do with steroids.....they are down to spinach abuse.
I think he looks great.......I've always been a big fan of popeye

"he's strong to the finish coz he eats his spinach.....he's popeye the sailor man"

jorvik,
Why are you apoligizing for disagreeing with everyone? Frankly, I think there's no reason that you need to do so (just MY opinion here). Afterall you have a right to think what you want, and it's good to do so as long as it's done in a civil way.

People who do stupid things to their body.
Hi, folks!
There's a lot of good stuff written here. All the pieces and parts are there that would have included what I would have said. Let me summarize.
1) I do not fault a person for wanting to be the best or outstanding at something. It may not be my cup of tea, but I'm not going to slight a person as long as (s)he is fully aware of the consequences and limitations.
2) To start with, it's not entirely clear whether these arms are real or synthetic. Plastic surgery does wonders these days. One thing I find interesting is to look at the flexed biceps positions. With the arms in those positions, can you see that the size of the triceps bulge is the same? That shouldn't be. When you flex the biceps, the triceps should lengthen and become less thick, and vice versa. The bulges appear to be the same regardless of arm position. Interesting... (a strong indication that these are silicone implants). And yes, these break. As was mentioned above by Kerry, China of WWF fame broke one of her breast implants by simply falling on her chest on the spring-loaded floor. Oops!!
She soon found out that there were many WWF moves that were off the table for her.
OK, let's assume they ARE real (which I doubt they are). Then the following would apply.
3) To get that big, one has to use steroids. Using steroids to get results of this magnitude would lead to testicular atrophy (tiny nuts syndrome). Imagine the irony of big biceps against tiny balls.
Then of course there is the issue of diminished libido (in the long run), and other longterm health consequences (the list is too long to mention).
4) This guy is WAY out of proportion. Can you say big bird? Generally getting out of proportion like that and attempting a real sport results in a serious injury of "the weak link."
5) What is it that you want to accomplish? When it comes to training, you can't have everything. You need to specialize your development for what you want to accomplish. Going for maximum size means you will have massive muscles, but these won't be maximized for speed, power, and range of motion. To do that, you will necessarily end up with relatively smaller muscles. Even football players don't look like bodybuilders. Take a look at world class sprinters, basketball players, boxers, etc. These are the body types that a person training to fight will end up with.
6) And finally one needs to consider that we all are unique. This gentleman has very, very short arms, which make his muscles (or his silicone) look big. If you have long arms, you won't end up with muscles like that, whether by training, pharmaceutical enhancement, or plastic surgery. In the beginning, people are best served by a broad training program that allows an individual to find out what THEY can be good at. It's better to work with what nature gave you than try to turn yourself into something you can't possibly be.
FWIW.
