I'm interested in learning the 3 sectional
staff, can anyone recommend an instructional video with basics and forms (kata)

Instructional video, no...but there's always Gordon (Chi Hui) Liu's "36 Chambers of Shaolin" (also marketed in the U.S. on video under a few other names), which features the 3-section staff in one scene. The scene pays tribute to the legend that the semi-historical San Te (played by Liu in the movie) is generally credited with creating the weapon.

Of course my reply is meaningless to your question, but it is a good, classic kung fu movie showing some rather, eh, novel training methods for the Shaolin Temple! Image
