wind catches lily
scatt'ring petals to the wind:
segmentation fault

First snow, then silence.
This thousand dollar screen dies
so beautifully.

No keyboard present
Hit F1 to continue
Zengineering?

To have no errors
Would be life without meaning
No struggle, no joy

You step in the stream,
but the water has moved on.
This page is not here.

Having been erased,
The document you're seeking
Must now be retyped.

The ten thousand things
How long do any persist?
Netscape, too, has gone.

With searching comes loss
and the presence of absence:
"My Novel" not found.

The Tao that is seen
Is not the true Tao, until
You bring fresh toner.

A crash reduces
your expensive computer
to a simple stone.

There is a chasm
of carbon and silicon
the software can't bridge

Yesterday it worked
Today it is not working
Windows is like that

Windows NT crashed.
I am the Blue Screen of Death.
No one hears your screams.

Seeing my great fault
Through darkening blue windows
I begin again

The code was willing,
It considered your request,
But the chips were weak.
Printer not ready.
Could be a fatal error.
Have a pen handy?

ABORTED effort:
Close all that you have.
You ask way too much.

A file that big?
It might be very useful.
But now it is gone.

Errors have occurred.
We won't tell you where or why.
Lazy programmers.

Server's poor response
Not quick enough for browser.
Timed out, plum blossom.

Three things are certain:
Death, taxes, and lost data.
Guess which has occurred.

Everything is gone;
Your life's work has been destroyed.
Squeeze trigger (yes/no)?

Chaos reigns within.
Reflect, repent, and reboot.
Order shall return.

Login incorrect.
Only perfect spellers may
enter this system.

This site has been moved.
We'd tell you where, but then we'd
have to delete you.

The Web site you seek
cannot be located but
endless others exist

Stay the patient course
Of little worth is your ire
The network is down

Hal, open the file
Hal, open the damn file, Hal
open the, please Hal

Out of memory.
We wish to hold the whole sky,
But we never will.

Rather than a beep
Or a rude error message,
These words: "File not found."

Serious error.
All shortcuts have disappeared
Screen. Mind. Both are blank.

Perhaps, so ... Everthing I learned about computers was first learned on an old Apple Computer ... before Windows ... when everything was F1 this and Alt Ctrl that!

Computers made no sense until I had the great big AHA when I understood putting documents into FILE FOLDERS!

Beautiful poetry. I share your thoughts and feelings on Windows, Jackie. Bet you never got the "Blue Screen of Death" on a MAC Image

UNIX, Solaris, Roadrunner, Linux, and maybe even Apple are the way to go for the future.

The Navy at one time considered replacing shipboard UNIX with NT. Trials were conducted on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific a few years back. NT went down causing the ship to be dead in the water for a full day. End of experiment.

Glad you're all enjoying this haiku... I wish I could say it was all mine, but it was forwarded to me from my IT group at work.

Does anyone remember the rock opera "Tommy"? I fear we are becoming just that, a nation plugged in and tuned out.

Allen-sama,

Considering that Mac OS X is a Linux based OS (that I have yet been unable to crash - and I have tried, believe me!), it may be the first real, useful GUI (graphic user interface for the uninitiated) for Linux that makes use and installation almost as easy as turning the system on.

I was VERY impressed with the fact that all my settings for my internet browser automatically updated into )OSX's system files without my having to do ANYTHING! Even the bookmarks for a later installed update to Netscape were grabbed from my legacy (OS 9.2) version automatically.

Same thing for Photoshop, Illustrator and several other apps I run on it. VERY impressive.

Talk about hassle free computing!

And I have a day-gig as a sales manager for a WinTel software developer, so my familiarity with both sides of the issue is pretty good.

Kind Regards,

Lee Darrow, C.Ht.
