Hey Kerry,
KerryM wrote:I see the philosophical answer but I disagree. :) ... You can play with words etc all day long, the fact remains- some day you'll die- life doesn't last forever- just cause it hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't.
There isn't anything to disagree with here. It IS a philosophical answer. I'm not playing with words, I'm giving you the kind of answer you asked for. And the view doesn't claim that it "won't" happen. This philosophical position defines "knowledge" differently than perhaps the usual usage, which is common in philosophy. For this view, predictive statements of future events cannot, under any circumstances, be "knowledge" until after the events they predict have happened. Even then, it is only knowledge that the "Prediction" is true.

But don't take my opinion as argumentative- because I surely understand what you are saying.. Really- I'm not disagreeing with you persay- but the concept that just because it hasn't happened yet- it might not- not with death anyway. There is no escaping death. ...

...coarse- ya never know- ....

...so I guess I can't say I know death will happen "to me" :) because yes- it hasn't yet. LOL.. but it has to lots of others so.... I see your point LOL
:D Again, its not my point and I don't claim to agree with it. My view actually is that we can't truely "Know" anything at all. That is an entirely different discussion that would take a thread all its own.

As far as the "death" issue goes, even with having seen other people "die," a lot depends on what you consider "death" (and "life" for that matter) to be...mental? physical? spiritual? identity? energy? cosmic? temporal? .....That's not linguistic, that's part of people's religions and spirituality....soooo...back to THAT again! heeheeheee...

Good Chat! :) You ended up answering your own question too! I'm glad you got a kick out of it!

Hi,

the statement
'The only thing i know is that i know nothing', was intended as a a philosophical joke.
Obviously if he Knows he Knows nothing he Knows something, right. It was not intended as some profound statement to be analysed.:)

Yes Kerry Le H is right that is a Philosophical answer, I gave we do not Know we are going to die, and you saying it is just playing with words is what I meant all them posts back when I said Philosophy was Mental M**turbation.

yeah I didn't mean any thing offenseive by playing with words comment. Just seems to me that no matter how you look at it- if there is birth- there is death at some time or else birth wouldn't be considered "birth" eh? :)

I get the joke- the only thing you "know" is nothing which is still knowing something. Kinda like from the RUSH song- even if you choose not to decide you still have made a choice..... :) that one fits right in there too! LOL

This really is fun guys! :)
