Curse??? What curse???

"I don't think we're battling the Curse of the Bambino here. We're battling the New York Yankees, and this group of renegades that I'm putting out on the field, they don't care. They care about their Harley-Davidsons running good enough that they won't run off the Tobin Bridge over there in Boston, and playing baseball."

-Grady Little

And as one blogger on Boston.com wrote:

"Last night Tim Wakefield had the knuckler wiggling more than Shakira atop a drying machine."

And if that ain't a comforting image, I don't know what is!

Looks like a prison line-up!

Don't worry, Scotty, they gave the Bronx Boobs one last night.

Advertisers need their revenue...

By the way, 1918 and Roger Clemons are classic examples of how the Yankees have no ability to grow their own talent. They are a failed farm organization. Any idiot can buy a team with enough money. That's not baseball in my book.

Hey, give me a few million (each) to buy Joey, Gary, Mike, Raffi, Dana, and Maria, and I'll kick all your a$$e$! I suppose that shows what an awesome instructor I am, eh?

Sad thing is, this year they are overpaid and overrated. With all that money, you'd think they could have done better. It's going to be fun...

What is the value in current dollars of the $200,000 bambino deal.
I have heard that was actually an excellent business deal for the then owner.

No farm team??

Derek Jeter
Bernie Williams
Jorge Pasada
Andy Pettite

However, I will admit for the most part George buys his team. But hey when you are born and raised in the Bronx you stay loyal to your team.

Did anybody catch the Yankee parady cartoon on SNL last weekend?

Personally, after the '94 strike I no longer have been a "rabid" baseball fan. What should have been my greatest sports moment, Yankees beating the Mets in the world series, was nothing more than a hooray - what else is on TV?

Bill,
Think I should plan on having television coverage during the regional on the 18th if the Sox are in the World Series??

Don Zimmer battles Pedro!!
Groundskeeper stomped by Yankees!!!!
What do you think about those situations?
Not to mention the head hunting pitchers.
The WWF meets the American League........

Hope it stops raining soon for game 4.
Lot to talk about that game.

Scotty

I caught the SNL cartoon spoofing Steinbrenner buying everything in sight, and the NYY being credited with fighting aliens and saving the planet. Even to a Yankee hater, it was funny.

For those that didn't see it, the Yankees were constantly being sent on "save the planet" missions inbetween games. You know, these Yankees that the world allegedly loves. Anyhow they are fighting invading aliens and getting their butt kicked. So Steinbrenner steps in and buys out the killer alien. Then they shave him because a Yankee can't have any facial hair... Goes to bat in the next game, and as I recall ends up eating the pitcher or something...

Just my point, Scotty. Not made in New York. If you can't beat-em, then buy-em.

BTW, of those Yankees you mentioned, only Jeter is worth mentioning. I'd pick your game closer as the next most important player (other than the Boston-bred Clemons), and I don't believe he's from New York.

Pasada is a thug. While the New York media was lambasting Pedro for pointing at the dugout and then pointing to his head, what they DIDN'T show was Pasada starting the trash talk by doing the head pointing. Pedro was just dishing it right back. Apparently Yankees can dish it out, but can't take it.

A no win situation.

* Apparently it's OK for a 72-year-old to assault someone, but not OK for a man to defend himself (gently and deftly I might add... Nice move). Note how the New York media will show Pedro throwing Zimmer down by the head, but not show the old man lunging at him with a left hook.

In any case, classy of Zimmer to apologize. Apparently the young ones don't understand that...

* Apparently it's fashionable to call Pedro a head hunter in the New York media, even though Clemons leads Pedro SUBSTANTIALLY in batters hit. (From the quote I heard on TV, it was almost 50% more).

* Apparently it's OK for Clemons to throw a ball "over the plate" at Ramirez's head; his head was leaning over the plate. Never mind the fact that it is legal to lean forward like that, and the high pitch was not in the strike zone.

Sure, Roger... Brilliant move. Whatever did I do?? We'll have to remember that one! ;)

* Apparently it's OK for professional athletes to gang-assault a groundskeeper for Boston because he was waving a towel in the dugout, cheering his Bosox on.
Image Note the police pulling Karim "the Kon" Garcia off of the poor groundskeeper. And just what were you doing in the bullpen, there, Karim? Oh, and sorry you hurt your hand.

And the reason for the gang assault? "Boston created an atmosphere of lawlessness!"
The devil made me do it!
- Geraldine Jones

I'm waiting for Boston's finest to press charges. Meanwhile, can you believe the Yankee organization had the gall to demand an apology?

Morals of the story...

1) If you're an athlete, it doesn't mean you know how to fight.

2) Shut up, apologize, and move on.

3) Pedro needs to channel his emotions. To heck with the theatrics; kick their butts on the ball field. Best way to shut their mouths.

4) You're always going to be the bad guy when dealing with New Yorkers. They own the media.

Curse my a$$!!

May the best team win. When it's this good, the result doesn't matter.

If you wrote the script, it would be considered "trite." Life is often much, much more interesting than art.

I've already got goosbumps about tonight's game. It couldn't possibly be any more dramatic. ESPN's poll says 70% of the voters are rooting for the Sox.

What can you say?

* Tied after 2 games

* Tied after 4 games

* Tied after 6 games

* Seventh game goes into extra innings.

The knee jerk reaction is to blame Grady Little for leaving a tired Pedro in after 110 pitches in an exhausting, emotional game. But then it was Grady who had faith in his team and didn't blow his wad in game six. A win by Burkette and company? Improbable for any but this team that always found a way to win.

Only one other thing to say here...

Go Marlins!

I'm sorry, but this was too good to consider whether or not it was in "good taste."

To those Yankees that defend the right of a 72-year-old with anger management issues to physically assault another human, I say

To those who practice the seisan bunkai head redirect on a weekly basis, you gotta appreciate Pedro's deft handling. This was poetry; it could have been ugly. 8O
