Uechi-Ryu in Halifax NS

Post by Twiggy »

I heard there are two uechi-ryu schools in the HRM, is anyone here from either one of them? I have been out of martial arts for about a year and half but I would like to come back. I took goju-ryu karate in the past, which I've been told is similar to uechi-ryu. What I liked about goju was its emphasis on redirection as opposed to direct hitting and blocking. Some of the other schools I've tried were not as "gentle", and I'm small; so to make a long story short, I prefer a side step to a block :-)
Having said that, is there someone from Hali in uechi-ryu that I can talk to about those particular dojos?

Its been a year or so since I have been back there..but Sensei Paul Ross teaches Uechi at Sensei Ron Fagan's dojo twice a week I think.
Sensei Ross is solid when it comes to form.

Also try Sensei Bailey's - http://www.dartmouthuechiryu.com/

Good list Laird ( just noticed this tread) not sure if Clay or Louie are actively teaching but the contact numbers are active regardless. I recommend watching a class of each and pick your flavour as Uechi NS is far from "templated" (good thing). No brainer on the South Shore though... pick Victor as I "teach" on Thursdays
