What what? Partial agreement? Whoa.

If you're a Nanking baby, bayonets are WMD, it seems.

Of course the "travails of poor nations" matter."

Its one of the reason why I was scornful of the author's downgrading their plights with "cutsey".....oh-so-clever-look-at-me-and-my-wicked-smart-turn-of-phrase verbage.
If the author wanted it to be taken seriously then the author needed to address it as such....being cute and clever detracts from the message.

If the author isn't going take it seriously and address it in serious fashion why should the reader?

I'm more or less in agreement on Dresden-----further, since you mentioned Hiroshima--the Japanese killed more people by hand, up close and personal---tossing babies onto bayonets etc during the Rape of Nanking----yet Hiroshima is decried and Nanking.....well Nanking is treated much differently.......and the arguments applied to Nanking are not considered for Hiroshima.
Try and get along.

This thread will more or less be a bit of a rant, i just wanted to put it somewhere where i could get some input.

SOMEWHAT KIND OF on topic but not exactly:

Foreign policy:

I think you guys really should just agree that saddam was a bad man, and a bit too arrogant for his own good. He wanted kuwait because he got power hungry, and thought he could just step in and do it. Then he got his ass kicked, and became a bit more careful, but still more or less gave the west the finger.

If it were not for the possibility of civil war in Iraq, i would have supported the war, WMDs or not. But fact is, i bet even with great planning, thats something that could not have been avoided, going in would be stupid.

Iran would be pretty stupid to invade, 70% of the population may hate the government, but nothing unites a people more then a bunch of foreigners dropping bombs.

Energy and oil:

Obama and McCain kept talking about breaking reliance on foriegn oil. But there isn't exactly much oil left to discover from what i understand.

It's not about reliance on foreign oil that should be avoided, it's reliance on oil all together. Im not talking about global warming or anything. Im talking about the fact that the less oil we got, the more expensive things are. We use lots of plastic right? Well, whats plastic made out of? What is rubber made out of? What does a farmer use on his fields? He uses a tractor, which uses oil.

Im not a fan of John Hagees idea that we need to grab as much oil as possible, because once that runs low, what then?

Saudi arabia screwed it self over with it's reliance on oil, it could have used that wealth to build universities and schools but nooooooooo, they built more hotels and filled thier pockets, while being content to keep themselves in medieval times.

This is off topic:
If two men, one is chinese another is japanese.

THe Japanese man kills ten Chinese people and tortures them with knives and pins. He gets away with his crime.

THe chinese man kills 2 japanese people quickly and painlessly.

He goes infront of a japanese court.

"BUT YOUr GUY KILLED MORE PEOPLE MORE HORRIBLY"

Yes....but Mr. Chinese....just because our man did worse then you doesn't make what you did right.

Wrong is a wrong. Someone else doing worse does not make a wrong right.

And your absolutely right about Nanking. That was horrific.

Im not exactly in disagreement with you CXT. just noticed a trend in your posts. For instance, when i posted about prejudice against Muslims in the TOUGH ISSUES section you pointed out human rights abuses in the middle east. I'm not denying it doesn't happen. But your comparing a backwards culture stuck in the sixth century to a modern western democracy. Surely America/Canada would hold it self to a far higher standard then third world dictatorships in south America and the middle east?

Surely the Japanese of today hold themselves to a higher standard then the fascists they once were?
