What do you mean standing submissions don't work? For who? I don't know about you, but if I get a good hold of someone with a kotehineri, kotegatame, wakigatame, or any number of shime waza, while someone is standing then they either submit or get something broke.

I wonder if we have a problem with definitions here. I agree with you here. I was thinking more in terms of standing joint locks.
