9th kata

Its kind of a sad state, if you ask me.

If you want to call yourself a judge, you should know the laws that you are judging...so to speak. To force participants in a contest to create more complex and lengthy katas because you don't understand anything about the style is utterly rediculous.

Its like trusting Consumer Reports to guide you on your next purchase of hi-end audio equipment. I once read one of their comparisons that omitted the audio performance of compact disk players. They stated that because these units played digital audio that they all would have the SAME SOUND!!

I personally believe that there should be a representative amount of Uechi seniors in any judging panel that would ajudicate Uechi or Shohei stylists doing kata. It makes sense to me. But I'm sure there have been many others who have said the same thing......

I think we pretty much agree Bill

theres parts of the form however that I see other styles techniques where I personally have interpreted Uechi versions .

I dont see why the Uechi versions wouldnt be used .

I actually like it more now I`m not expecting it to be so Uechi , the new parts jumped out at me the first few veiws .

You think it might be possible to get him to do this "super Uechi kata" for us? Any suggestions how?

Just ask!

There was a time when he told me he'd teach it to me. It's no biggie. He just took pieces and parts of existing Uechi forms and strung together a long one. Plus he added in a little bit of "Nestor attitude" in the performance. Nestor is one of the best in the business at attitude when doing kata.

If I had a film of it, I could probably learn it in an afternoon. Again, there's absolutely nothing new in it. But it makes for a great tournament kata.

Thanks. I was just kidding. I was looking for something more "me" you know. Something along the line of Glasheen Sensei said that you made up a kata.......

BTW, I don't know if you've spoken to him lately, but Maomi is starting to show some of the Folta attitude in her kata. She looked great right before the tournaments they just attended. Maybe since we just got past our test we can get him to do it.
