Admittedly it is POSSIBLE that people will stop wanting to use drugs or lose all access to them. We may also be struck by a comet tomorrow. What history CAN tell us is that drug use / drug problems are a fixture in societies which have characteristics that are deeply, probably irrevocably engrained in our civilization. So unless you want to remove fundamental aspects of our civilization.... expect to see STDs, drugs, and crime in the future.

I don't remember saying people didn't pull strings on a social scale. What else is it when the Congress abdicates authority to control substances to the DEA and the DEA freaks out about pot and creates a situation where decades of jail and the loss of major assets can result from the sale of a drug which hasn't been shown to be any more intoxicating than alcohol or any more likely to produce lung disease than cigarettes? And has no known lethal dose? Of course there are also large decisions that affect our likelihood of entering into a war, some of which may benefit big corporations. Must this is different from saying that the people in power are deliberately creating a war on drugs or starting whole wars for nefarious ends.

How we get from this:
It's not about the government "messing" with your personal, family, social, etc, etc..
It's about the costs the use of drugs have on society.. Since there IS an impact--a negative one, and cost on society, health problems, crime, etc, from such use then the government is required to manage the problem in some manner....................
To this:Which is fine when the issue is simply one of morality. The personal, familial, social, health, mortality, and economic costs of drug abuse take it well out of the realm of being only a morality issue however.
Is beyond me..The government has no business messing with my personal, familial, social, health or mortality issues either. Economy is debatable.
