Being of the same mind and on the same wavelength he replied: " 10! Dancing came 5 seconds after i pulled said pin and tossed it with its former holder into their room."

What in the hell are you talking about? He made a friggen feature length movie about how the world is going to end because of people like muslim (and their christian counterpart) extremist. I'm baffled by your post.

Don't know if the whole thread was read. Can't blame him though, i hate going through an entire thread sometimes.

Val

"dangerous to pretend that your enemy are not smart or clever"

Didn't say anything even remotely like that....I said that Bill Mahr is not consistant with his own logic and its probably not a good idea to reinforce or credit acts you think are horrific by using terms that are positive/prasieworthy/laudable etc.

Also IMO its a potential problem explaning to the public why bombing innocent, unaware people completely unable defend themselevs is, in Mahr's use of the term, an act of "courage" but bombing an abortion clinic is not.
IMO its a really bad precedent.

If somebody only has one word to use...then ok...but if someone actually has a vocabulary then maybe...just maybe.... this would a good place to use it.

"if we get so focused on using words that can be constued as respectful........"

Good point---except that even in the very narrow spectrum of this discussion the "focus" seems to be overwhelmingly on not using terms that might....heaven forbid ;) use terms that might be insulting to mass murderers...thus the opposite of the problem you mention seems to be taking place.

If its a problem in one direction then its certainly a potential problem the other...and for similar reasons.

IJ

"You have nothing new to say"

Don't need to...I was correct the first time....you just don't listen. ;)
I just figure that eventually it will sink in.

"just because you can find a tiny fraction of personal risk in bombing an abortion clinic"

Actually my point was that one can, if motivated, spin nearly anything into an act of "courage."
Thus all I'm calling for is a tad bit more rigor in our choice of words....not really all that earthshaking......simply exercise a bit more care in ones word choice and use those large vocabularies people supposedly have.

"supposedly momumental importance of a single word"

Well, I'd say that your the guy that see's it as "momumental"...I made a simple statement about Mahrs logical inconsistancy and sloppy thinking and you have been nitpicking it death since I made it.......most my posts have been defenses of your attacks.

This would have been over long ago had you not felt the knee-jerk need to defend your ideological fellow traveler Bill Mahr.

Besides---it was that very statement of the couage of 9/11 hijackers (a bit more involved of course) that got Mahr fired off his first show---so clearly more people than just little-ol- me think its important. ;)

Interesting pattern IJ--and one that neatly dove-tails with the Lefty interest in re-establishing the "Fairness Act"...whenever we get involved in deep discussion...and your coming up short ;).....someone disagrees with your ideology....you always seem to want to declare the topic "over" or "done" or "dead".......if your arguments and logic and reasoning are flawed--simply state the topic is "dead".........if you suddenly notice that your statments are not supported...call the topic "over"....if there are other equally valid POV's that ask for consideration.....call it "done."......if there are gaping holes in your reasoning...call it "dead."

If you can't convince people your right using logic and reason and can't deal with hard looks at your POV.....simply call it "dead" and move on before people notice the problems.

At least I'm willing to discuss the matter.......you and your ideological fellow travelers would greatly prefer to call all such questioning "dead" and move on.

Always much easier to simply assume that everyone that does not share your ideological POV have nothing of import to say and and that we should all know our place when speaking/discussing with one of the elite. ;)
