CNN says Pain is Pain

WASHINGTON (AP) -- To a part of the brain that registers pain, the distressful reaction from social rejection is just as great as from a poke in the eye, according to researchers who measured the neural reactions of people who thought they had become outcasts in a game.
Eisenberger said the study suggests that social exclusion of any sort -- divorce, not being invited to a party, being turned down for a date -- would cause distress in the ACC.
Yet another reason to pay attention to the emotions of training. It's not called body, mind, and spirit for nothing. I think research finding of this kind will greatly help those who resort to physical means to end years of psychological and verbal abuse.

It also takes a fresh look at the mantra of "stick and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me". The words don't hurt - but your perception of emotional attack the words represent can hurt. MArtists need to develop awareness of not only their physical cues to danger, but also their emotional ones.

Its supoosedly through social ostracism....or at least that is what I read.....("Bully Free Classroom", Beane, A, PhD, Free Spirit Publications.....
