Victim prevents rape by fighting back

Two men forced their way into an apartment in the Rolling Terrace Estates neighborhood of Silver Spring on Monday afternoon, physically assaulted one of the apartment's occupants, and also attempted to sexually assault her.

Two men knocked on the door of an apartment in the 500 block of Domer Avenue just before noon and forced their way inside when a woman opened the door, according to Montgomery County Police. Two women, a 4-year-old girl and an infant boy were in the apartment at the time.

The men armed themselves with knives from the kitchen and one of the women was taken to a bedroom where she was physically assaulted by one of the men. He attempted to sexually assault her as well, but she fought back and prevented a rape, according to police. While trying to protect herself, she was cut and scratched on her hands, arms and shoulders.

The other woman, who was pregnant, was also taken to another bedroom. That woman, police said, was unharmed, and neither of the children were hurt.

Before the men left, they ransacked the apartment and took property, according to police. The pregnant woman was taken to an area hospital for a precautionary checkup and the other woman was also taken to an area hospital for treatment of her injuries.

The men were Hispanic with dark complexions and thin mustaches, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 160 to 180 pounds and dressed in all black clothing. One man had a round face, and the other man had a thin face, according to police.
