Uechi at the Cape

Post by KerryM »

We have a student in New Hampshire who runs an Inn. Well- helps her parents- She had some guests come in who were talking about taking Uechi-Ryu at the Cape?

Then she also mentioned that her Sensei in Shotokan knew of a teacher of Uechi on the "Cape" as well- Sensei "Andy" is what our student calls her Sensei-

Does anyone know who teaches Uechi Ryu at the Cape? Our student was asking- We thought she might be refering to Windsong but she said that one didn't ring a bell-

Thanks for the help

There's a Uechi school in Falmouth. I could be wrong but I think it's taught by Arthur Rabesa who wrote a book on Kumite.

I also think it's right on Rt. 6.. also could be wrong.

Look at GEM's school listing.

I don't believe there is an active Dojo on the Cape.
The moderator for the special needs forum Sensei Bill was an active student and teacher of Arthur Rabesa's school. You might ask him on his forum.
The closest I am aware of is Peter Mcrae's school in Plymouth.
There may be some folks training out together in a non commercial venue.

Hi Fred, Kerry.

Art's dojo was in the Falmouth area when it was active, Ben.

As of last fall, I knew there was no Uechi dojo on the Cape. When I had my dojo in Foxboro, one of my students lived on the Cape and couldn't find a dojo near him, therefore he started with me. Windsong's dojo is inactive, BUT there is, at least up through early last fall, an active Uechi dojo in the New Bedford/Fall River area [just outside the Cape], Kerry.

Our own Bill [caddybill] lives in Falmouth, Kerry, you might wish to contact him for local knowledge.

No Uechi on the Cape??!! :(

Well... Peter in Plymouth has a great dojo and is a great teacher and guy. He offers classes mon through saturday I believe. Also morning classes a few days a week. As a student you can attend as many as you want, though home practice is encouraged.

He also has quite a bullpen of Dan ranks, more than a few Yon Dan or greater.
