Future of Uechi-ryu

Post by gmattson »

is in good hands. Just got this note from Gerry McDonald:
Hi George,

We had the pleasure of working out with Dana Sheets last night. She was in San Diego on business and brought her gi. Paul Haydu called for a special work-out, as we usually do when there's a guest in town, and we enjoyed a nice work-out outside on the upper terrace of Paul's backyard. Yes, we were even thinking of our Uechi brothers and sisters in those cold places back east and up north.

Some of us Uechi seniors wonder about the future of Uechi in the next 10 - 20 years. Well not to worry. I think Dana, and others like her, are the future leaders of Uechi.

All those pictures I have taken don't quite capture what Jerry says in such a straightforward manner.

We are lucky to have access to her and all the many people she has gone out of her way to network with. It's great to see people like Dana who can assimilate and execute the way she does. She "bottles" knowledge like few others can.

I get to rub arms with Paul, Jerry, Ian and the gang next week. San Diego is turning out to be quite the networking place. Unfortunately this may be my last trip there for a while. Another day to explain...

Lauds to Dana! :multi: Dana is much younger than me but she is so extraordinary and gifted as an MA, that I consider her and Heather both mentors in my Uechi and try not to be jealous of such incredible talent).

She and Heather are indeed the future of Uechi....and what a promising future that is.

Keep up the great work, Dana.

Regards,
Vicki

Oy! I emailed Jerry and thanked him for the kind words. I had a great time in San Diego - meeting with Jerry, Paul, and Brant. It is just great to meet other folks who train and enjoy our system so much. Thanks again for inviting me to join you on the mountain top! And the dinner afterwards was fabulous.

It seems like we might have another workout when I return in April and perhaps be able to meet with Joe Graziano. Joe - if you're reading this - I had no idea you were that close or I would have contacted you before I left.

Good people, good training - what more can you ask for?

And Vicki - thank you for your kind words. It's always fun when we get to train together and I'm looking forward to seeing your new shotokan moves!

Hi Dana,

Would love to have you stop by and train with me if your schedule permits. Please do let me know when you're coming as I'm very favorably impressed with your depth of study and I look forward to meeting you!
