Stanley Cup Finalists
Congratulations to the Edmonton Oilers and the Buffalo Sabres. They were both surprise seeds who have made a great, exciting and hard fought run.
They will meet Monday in the finals of this years competition for the most valued prize in proessional sports ... the Stanley Cup.
Black eyes, stitches, smiles with missing teeth ... these guys are warriors and champion athletes.

The Meri is a nice weapon (imagine the solid jade/geenstone ones) , but for Lacrosse we need a Taiaha ...

Let me tell you a thing or two about the boys from U.Va. And yea, I'm talking trash, dude! We're proud, and have good reason to be.

Virginia caps undefeated season with NCAA title
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- For more than two months, college lacrosse has dominated the headlines -- but not because of what has happened on the field.
With the rape allegations against three members of the Duke men's lacrosse team casting a long shadow, Virginia coach Dom Starsia hopes his Cavaliers have emerged as a positive story for a sport badly in need of one with their dominating victory over Massachusetts in the NCAA men's championship Monday.
Virginia completed an undefeated season with its fourth NCAA title, beating unseeded UMass 15-7 behind five goals each from Matt Poskay and Matt Ward.
With their title, the Cavaliers became the
second straight national lacrosse champion
to survive an entire season undefeated.

"We are not angels in any regard," Virginia coach Dom Starsia said. "And we're not preaching to anybody, but I'd like to think we do it the right way. We get nice kids and they stumble along the way as they grow up, but in general we have respectful kids, considerate young men."
"I think you can hold this group up as a little bit of an ideal and say here's what the sport is capable of."
In late March, Duke officials suspended the school's highly ranked team amid allegations that a woman hired as a stripper was raped at a party hosted by team members. Three team members have been charged.
Virginia (17-0) proved to be very capable this season, becoming the second consecutive undefeated champion and the 13th to post a perfect season. Johns Hopkins went 16-0 last year.
"The whole undefeated thing snuck up on us, but to come in here as expected and do this is a very special moment for our program," Starsia said. "I'm very proud of our guys."
Before a record crowd of 47,062, Massachusetts (13-5) made a game of it for the first half but ultimately could not contain the top-seeded Cavaliers.

Buffalo worked hard last night - what a great game - I was on the edge of my seat for most of it, knowing that 1 goal wasn't going to cut it and couldn't believe Carolina scored with 3- mins. left in the third.
I would LOVE to see them against Edmonton in the finals. Can't wait to see the game Thursday night!!!!!

Field lacrosse is to lacrosse as field hockey is to hockey mate.
In Canada we consider it a game for girly men.
We will probably do not to bad our girly men are tougher than yours.
(no offence to any girly men
)
Actualy field lacrosse is a game of wheels, if they get some islanders out their running with sticks the should dominate.

Oops!
Dumb de dum dum
I was so excited when they held off the Hurricanes that I thought they had won the Series rather than just tying it.
Thanks for the correction.

Oilers
Those Oiler fans sing O Canada just great. Very stirring. I am glad that the team withstood those intense Hurricane surges late in the game. It was exciting to see their goalie stand tall.
What a crises for Oiler fans ... the Carolina goalie is an Edmontin native
I've been watching the World Cup and IMHO it just doesn't stand up to Stanley Cup final hockey.

Salmon River named Hockeyville
Last updated Jun 12 2006 08:45 AM ADT
CBC News
Car horns honked and church bells rang in Salmon River as the central Nova Scotia community was crowned "Hockeyville" on Sunday night.
As the winner of the CBC Television contest, Salmon River will get $50,000 in upgrades to its local arena and $10,000 worth of hockey equipment.
The community of 2,000 will also host a National Hockey League exhibition game in nearby Truro.
"What an experience," said Ellery Deuville, owner of Deuville's rink. "I never dreamed of having something like this happen."
The contest started in March with 50 communities across Canada vying for the Hockeyville title. Voters across the country helped whittle down the list.
In Friday's round, the top 10 had to make a 45-second pitch about why they were deserving of the prize. Salmon River made it through, representing the Atlantic region in the top five.
In the final round, Salmon River was up against Smithers, B.C., Airdrie, Alta., Barry's Bay, Ont. and Falher, Alta.
Deuville said he welcomes the prize money, but considers the exhibition game a real bonus because many people in the community have never seen NHL teams play.
