Why don't you have a meat puppet? If they are broken or afraid time to find a tougher model!

It's the duty of the meat puppet to pass on all they have learned to the replacement unit. Don't cross arms with anyone who is not willing to pay for the education.

The next in the que should not be a babe in soft robes . The next up should have the lessons of the previous.

How are you to progress if all you face are babes in soft cloths. Each meat puppet should at the top of your game.

Teach them all you know and push them to the limit. If you keep breaking training partners and run out folks to train with your a poor teacher. If your meat puppets push you to your limit and they have partners in the que then the world is unfolding as it should.

If your meat puppets have no training partners then they have not trained they and are wasting your time by not trying to improve in order to help in your skill development. How insulting is that? Give me karate,I refuse to explore this and will sit on my ass until you give me karate! I will not progress and I will not help you improve....give me , give me ,give me.These puppets should be damaged... well if your all agreed on the concept of skill development they have let you down.

Guess I'm keen on the meat puppet concept, but mine come with strings.

Hell Adam, if your meat puppets don't survive they were never intended to.

Yeah between class is what im talking about. In class i got no problems.

It's blokes OUTSIDE of class that sometimes prove hard to work with.

Thats the thing, all my meat puppets(taiji man, shorin-ryu man, and wing chun man) all just get really bored with it and only settle with foundation conditioning or a little sparring. Hell even pad work. Pad work lasts just five minutes and no one wants to do any more, even though i think padwork is fun.

And thier all usually busy most of the time during the school year, summer is ''play time'' for me usually.

It's just so damn annoying.

HOWEVER, i AM going to meet wing chun man next week, ill see how i pull that off.

So....one man drilsl

Adam, here's a drill I do every morning upon rising and every night before sleep.

This is kiai jutsu.

First I fill a 5 gallon painter's bucket with water from the garden hose.

I take off my clothes and put on a pair of swimming trunks.

Go outside with a towel.

Feel the grass and earth underneath your feet.

Feel the air moving around you.

Gaze at the rising sun, or the unfathomable darkness between the crystalline stars in the sky.

Take deep breath into your dan tien.

While you raise the bucket and pour, start a long relaxed exhale.

With your breath, feel a prayer of thankfulness, wonder
and love for this thing we call "existence in the world".

Let the water wash all the negative energy in your mind/body into the ground with your breath.

Dry off, run inside, and feel wonderful.

So let's be serious. Anyone have some good solo drills that don't involve much equipment?

Speed.

Isolate a movement from kata.

Understand that the only thing that can possibly slow you down, and prevent you from realizing the potential inherent in your nervous system, your synapses, is the psychological fear of letting yourself go.

You must understand and have faith that you already have the capability to move incredibly fast.

Two different approaches that work in a complimentary way.

Do the movement as slowly and as free of muscular and mental tension that is possible for you at the time.

Do it so slowly that it takes you several breaths to complete it. Pay attention to any habitual tenseness and let it go.

Practice for speed. Do the same movement as fast as you possibly can, until you run out of gas (spirit).

Don't think about power, or accuracy or anything other than moving faster than thought. (light).

Chain punches, uppercuts etc are a good place to start, for continuous motion.

Other movements that require exaggerated body shifting can be practiced as a singular explosion of speed ( the release of tension)

You already have the speed, all you have to do is let yourself use it.

It's all in your mind.

Flinch reflex.

Stand in a natural RELAXED stance, feet shoulder width apart, hands hanging against the hips.

Go from this position into opening sanchin stance as quickly and violently as possible

Knees slightly bent, legs protecting the groin, fingertips at eye level, elbows protecting the ribs, stomach contracted, chin protecting the throat, shoulders hunched, eyes glaring.

Practice going from a totally relaxed warm and fuzzy state to the physical manifestation of your "reptile brain".

Use this concept when you do the opening movements of sanchin.

Practice using this mental and physical "attitude" as a trigger for decisive action.

Instantly freeze your body and mind in a spasm and uncoil into a strike/grab etc....

Use this concept with every movement from every kata.

That is your body on the chemical cocktail, it's a gift if you use it, it's a curse if you fight it.

If you fight your instinctive reaction you will grow weak. If you trust and learn to channel your instincts, you will become exceedingly powerful.

Do it really really fast and violently. The more you are able to consciously and voluntarily assume this mind/body attitude and explode from it into action, the quicker you will be able to act proactively in a situation where your primal brain takes over.

It will become your friend.

The kind of friend that can save your life.

Power.

How would you move if your belly was filled with 100 pounds of molten lead?

What if the lead was turning into steam and exploding into and out of your hands/feet?

How would you strike someone if your hand weighed 100 pounds?

The answer is that you would use every ounce of your will power, every muscle in your body, and you would step, twist and sink with the weight.

If your hand weighed 100 pounds, you would have to really really really want to hurt someone in order to move it.

Your hand weighs more than 100 pounds, it weighs as much as your whole body, it has intent, and it knows what to do. 8O
