With Barry Bond approaching Hammerin' Hank Aaron's lifetime home run record, the steroid controversy is bubbling to the surface. Why? Well Barry's carreer was waning until suddenly he got much bigger and his hat size increased. Then all of a sudden at a latter age, his home run production kicks up again. And then let's not forget some of Barry's friends who are now being smoked out from the underworld of performance enhancing drug traffic.
Plus... People don't like Barry. He's a rather surley character. Right or wrong, anything Barry does isn't going to be viewed in the best light because of how he treats other people.
Should we care? We should when wrestlers commit murder/suicide, and we find drug abuse. We should when lives are shortened. We should when young boys potentially destroy their reproductive capabilities by engaging in anabolic steroid use at a young age.
When Barry breaks that home run record, I think there is a big opportunity for us all to reflect on this seedy side of athletic performance.
