Another great self-defense class

Post by Bill Glasheen »

Rich Castanet gives a great one-day self-defense class at our gymnasium. He covers crime statistics, common sense approaches to violence, the force continuum, the law, the use of commonly available weapons, etc. We got the Blauer suits out, and got to go harass some victims.

Question: Why don't they make hats, helmets, and headgear for Irishmen? You'd think with all that money I spent on the damn suit, that Tony and the gang could come up with something that fit my head.

Note to self: Bring ear plugs for those weapon hits upside the head to the lacrosse face mask.

Good stuff! We should film the class some time.

Great times indeed. Thanks for being one of he predators. 8O

I just took a look at my Bauer headgear and it is made just like yours but fits me with no problem. You have too much gray matter for the standard helmet.

Next time I'll ask Jim to bring his camera to record some of the activity. Some of the hits really sounded great.

We may even pick up a few new Uechi students as a result.

How was the turn-out?

Great class for women to get a reality check on how difficult and necessary it is to give it everything you've got in a fight.

Not sure about the statistics but have heard that on average, pound for pound, men are about 50% stronger. I have been looking at the weight the guys do in the gym and a guy around my size usually lifts atleast twice what I do on most of the same machines that I use.

I believe a woman needs to know how if feels to hit a man, where her strength is best used, her reaction time vs his, and much more.

Good stuff, Rich. I wish I could make it but keep having prior commitments in my schedule. Maybe the next time I can join your class.

We appreciate your organizations skills, talents, and time. Thank you and keep up the hard work.

Regards,
Vicki

About 25. Mostly women.

From the sounds of the beating Bill, Jim and Chris were taking a few really got the idea of 'intent'.

All with the suits on, of course...

Last night when I was getting ready to retire, I noticed a sore spot on my glute. I had done squats 2 days previously, so thought maybe I was getting out of shape or something. I squatted, and... nothing. No hint of the muscle being sore.

And then I remembered that loud THWACK! of one of those women getting me right in the arse. Oh yea.... In the heat of the moment, you rarely think anything of it. Later on... 8O

Note to Tony - a little more padding in the backside, please.

I wonder what it says when one of those women couldn't hit Jim in the head (mask and all) with a stick, but that other woman took such great delight hammering my bootie.

Hopefully, you weren't running away, Bill.

Maybe you decided to 'turn the other cheek'....and, of course, it could be your biggest target.
