aliens poll!

Post by TSDguy »

There is a wide range or intelligent or semi-intelligent ( ) people on this board, so I figured I get some opinions on where all those aliens are!

Calculator to estimate how many civilizations are in our galaxy if you haven't already done it.

A) Civilizations capable of getting here are easily capable of observing us without us knowing. They are visiting us and/or I have been probed.

B) Life is far more rare than is often expected. The universe, or our galaxy may be extremely sparsely populated.

C) I have mystical or spiritual beliefs that there is no life anywhere in the universe but Earth.

D) Our understanding of phsyics and technology is mostly complete and it is exceedingly difficult or impossible for civilizations to travel or communicate between stars.

E) We are boring or primitive or have been quarantined by other civilizations.

F) It's just really big out there. We'll find someone eventually.

G) Other

Some of my poll options overlap a bit. From the Drake Equation I came up with about 26 technologically advanced civilizations in the Milky Way (which is a lot lower than the guys that came up with the equation back in the 60s.) I have absolute faith that we haven't even come close to harnessing the full power of physics, but my own theory is the universe is too young to have civilizations running around at "warp 10" or creating wormholes and black holes or whatever insane way of traveling you can come up with.

based on the results of the calculation. . . h) somewhere between 2400 and many more!

I still believe earth and our galaxy is simply part of atom or cell in another lifeform that exists in another galaxy - - - that might be part of a cell. . . .
:)
who knows??? interesting to speculate though

I'd think its more likely that by the time a given civilization is capable of intersteller travel their concerns might be very different than what we might think.

There also might be a problem with makeing assumptions of what an "alien" civilization might do----they might well be so "alien" that their motivations and drives and thought processes might be radically different from our own.

Which could mean anything from they not developing an interest in exploration, to never developing the technology etc.

If things had gone differently here, we might all be clustered around a deep ocean geothermal vent, metablozing whatever elements percipiate out of a plume of superheated water.....while we make plans for the dauting trip to "dry land." :)

There is of course an argument that any people capable of "x" level of technolgoy will have "Y" common ground.
Forget #6, you are now serving nonsense.

Jim Beam and trailer parks are good friends of probing aliens...

So where did all these weird Tibetan meditation practices come from anyway?

What about the Yeti, dammit? What the hell?

We are the aliens. :P

There are so many 'witnesses' coming forward, from all kinds of reputable places.. Either they have seen them, seen their technology or have seen evidence themselves.. The idea or possibility of recovering alien technology represents a level of technological advantage that makes something like the Manhattan Project shrivel by comparison.. Far beyond any 'black level' project. Those who could or would control/master such technology would capture the world in an instant. The United States is alone more or less, in taking the current position that favors obfuscation and denial of the phenomena.. Untrue in other nations where this stuff is discussed openly, from those in the Russian Air Force who were ordered to shoot down UFOs on sight to the COMETA Report written up by the French government a few years ago. Most other countries are open about it but here, it's a whole different ball game--folks are shunned, afraid to report, afraid to lose their license to fly, get gunned down, etc...

Why all the hassle? Well some of the rumors are that the aliens are using something called Zero Point Energy systems. The idea is that they don't actually use velocity to travel, they simply go from point A to point B without the in between part--or the shortest distance between two points is the path of no path, as in quantum physics. This makes lots of sense as even us beginners are now reaching the limits of Newtonian based thrust systems.. Does anyone really think that we'll still be using this kind of 12th century thrust techniques 500 years from now? How about 5,000 years? What would civilizations 100,000 years ahead of us be using?

If such technology was at the disposal of the Military Industrial Complex and/or the DOD the question is what to do with it.. According to some they have been test flying these things for years.. But many seem to think such technologies could/would never be released to the public because of the fundamental financial/economic upheaval that would ruin it for those at the top of our well entrenched economic food chain, not to mention the threat of the technology being used for WMDs..

What would be the implications of such technology?

What would the highly compartmentalized MIC NOT do to control such technology?

Ever see how much of the entire budget goes into black projects? The only way to find out is to subtract the known spending from the total revenue and then subtract since even the amount spent on black projects is classified.. A phenomenally high number that is completely unaccounted for and large enough to finance a country..

Interesting stuff..

We think of ourselves as solid..

But in FACT the distance, if we zoom in and measure the relative distances between our subatomic components, our electrons and nuclei is comparable and proportional to the distances between the planets and our sun.. Using this space to matter ratio we come up with something like the volume of our bodies being 75% or more empty space...

George, if you haven't, you should check out the infamous double slit test from Quantum Physics ..

The good part is at the very end...

Hey George you kinda look like Dr Quantum..! 8)

Hmmm... Don't I have lots more hair????

Interesting clip though. Although I posted in jest, it is a subject that I thought a lot about as a child, attempting to understand the vastness of space and watching ants and other small creatures function in their world.

My fear was that the infinitely large creature, of which earth was an atom, would have an accident. Of course, I reasoned that it would probably be a million earth years before this event would affect earth!

Gotta stop reading these forums!!!! :)

I think it was Richard Dawkins 9among many others) who said that we'll never be able to intuitively understand quantum physics because our brains are evolved to understand our big world. Like Jim said, we're mostly empty space. If humans were the size of an electron, we'd cruise right through a slab of marble as though it were an open plain, but since we can't do that, we see it as being mostly solid when it really isn't.

Well I fundementally disagree with anything that uses terms like NEVER or can't understand.. (if that's what was meant)

We essentially evolved to chase and kill animals and grow food, yet we can now travel many times faster than sound...

Nuff said, from my perspective..

We already understand quantum physics to some degree, but not even the pioneers in the field intuitively understand it. It's like thinking about multiple dimensions. It's easy to understand them with math, but we can't 'picture' 5+ dimensions. That's part of the allure of things like the double slit experiment. We know exactly what is going to happen, but it just makes no sense in a going-to-the-mall kind of world.
