How's your Japanese?

Post by Bill Glasheen »

Actually, how's your katakana? This is the phonetic alphabet that the Japanese use for words that come from another language. (Although the Japanese Kanji equivalent is right by the katakana in the blue part of the shirt.)

No fair peeking at the url. ;)

I have GOT to get this shirt. The English equivalent just won't fly in mixed company, In fact, it's banned of all places in Fenway Park - that bastion of civil behavior. :D

And in case you cheat and you peeked at the url, you still owe me the name on the back of the shirt. ;)

The Fenway management wanted to create a family-friendly environment. Plus they were concerned about upsetting the (thin skinned) visiting team fans, thus causing them to lose their little tempers.

No such rules exist in Seattle, where they sell the shirts in Kelly green right ouside the gates.

I was looking for acceptable photos for this topic, and came across the following jpeg. Perhaps you'd like to add your own caption.

Along the lines of "poor taste"... One of the urls I visited pointed out how "Yankees suk" was being censored by MLB in his blog. So what did he change that naughty word to that slipped through the censors? "Swallow".

The first line means:
Yankees ヤンキース

I couldn't figure out the second one.
