Anyone who knows me knows that I respect strong women. I grew up with six sisters - all of whom are now professionals. Many of them were themselves athletes. My baby sister set numerous swimming records at Exeter when going to school there for the summer, and set another record at ODU while visiting the pool for a workout.
This is Arab-American psychologist Wafa Sultan. The interview appeared on Al-Jazeera TV (Qatar) on February 21st of 2006. Because of the nature of her statements, it may not stay online for long. Free speech is all fine and good unless you speak out against certain groups. Then all hell breaks loose. For all I know, some pinhead is going to threaten me because I posted this. What-ever... It takes a lot to shut this Irish mouth.
If a male had said what this woman said, he'd have a death sentence against him. She's either very brave, not too smart, or taking advantage of their chauvinism. In any case, I am in awe.
Interview on Al Jazeera TV.
I applaud Al Jazeera for allowing this woman to speak her mind.
Special thanks go to the person who sent this to me.

Wafa Sultan is a very impressive lady---also has one of the best lines ever used in a debate IMO.
She got into into it with an Islamic cleric who kept asking her about her relationship with Allah--she kept telling him that essentially that her relationship with Allah was between HER and Allah--and was really none of his business.
He kept pressing her about her "beliefs" and she said (my paraphrase) "Brother you can belive in stones for all care--just please do not throw them at me."
I vote "very brave" she knows what she is facing.

I have to add "extremely smart" to the list here.
She walked a very fascinating tightrope in her diatribe. On the one hand, she was tolerant of ALL religions, in spite of being a "secularist" herself. On the other hand, she took intolerant behavior on in a most "in your face" manner. Nothing like holding up the noble deeds of your blood enemies to stir things up. Holy cow! She absolutely did not hold back.
It all reminds me a bit of the old story of the king with no clothes. Nobody states the painfully obvious because of their own insecurities and fears. It takes an innocent child to call it like he sees it - with the crystal clarity of a child's eyes.
