Reflexivity

Post by jorvik »

I came upon this theory when reading about the finnancial markets.actually in a book written by George Sauros.later I found a better description of it on Wikipedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reflexivit ... al_theory)

As a martial artist, I often think that my appearance will illicit a certain response..for example if I am dressed in an Armani suit with a rolex watch and I take a midnight stroll in the Bronx....I can expect a different outcome than if I was poorly dressed and in broad daylight...also our appearance will in many ways predict the type of violent encounter we may have...this is all what I would call "common Sense"...but it is amazing how many people don't see it that way ..or see it too shallowly....we can all talk about the girl in the Too short dress provoking an attack by her appearance.but would never apply the same mindset to our own actions

When in Rome...

Yeah, I don't have clothing that would make me fit in North Omaha, so I stay the Hades out of there. Nor do I have any suits, so I stay out of the highbrow turf, as well.

I fit in pretty well in St Louis, with the right accessories (pushed the hair regs). Fifth most dangerous city in the country, statistically, the nightlife can get pretty wild. Being nice goes a long way.

" ... if I am dressed in an Armani suit with a Rolex watch and I take a midnight stroll in the Bronx...". CONTEXT is most important: if a British Nobleman as you were in that garb, yes, you might be out of place. If you were a Chaz Palminteri look a like from " A Bronx Tale" you would get the respect and avoidance you would deserve.

And especially if your Armani had a bulge under the left arm pit.

Otherwise, FUGGED ABOUT IT! :)

I've been to most states and I think 9 countries, and St. Louis was the scariest yet. I helped tear down a crackhouse and turn it into a park. One of the highlights were two guys arguing over who's gun it WASN'T. "I don't want this thing, man! I'm getting the ##### out of here!" :?

Nah, Detroit's far scarier. The only thing that could entice me to go there is a Red Wings game.

I was thinking about Detroit. I'm fortunate enough to have never been there. I'd kind of like to get a tour from a local just to see it first hand.
