Reel bad Arabs lecture(1hour) Post 9/11

Post by AAAhmed46 »

This is after 9/11.

Jack Shaheen lecturing on the subject, he talks about things that were not mentioned in the movie, the more political aspects at least. I like at the end when he talks about the book industry.

I believe the book predates 9/11, the movie no.

This is the movie:

Talks about the impact of imagery.

Strangely, his movie reel bad arabs was more or less reject by most arab film makers world wide.

Found the quotes by lenin very telling, in terms of how important film is.

Forgot about that Kuwaiti girl talking about smashing babies heads.

Though when discussing the isreali/palestinian conflict he seems to have a clear bias, i agree with him in regards of HOLLYWOOD portrayal. The actual conflict it self is waaay more complex then any propaganda, especially these days.

He also talks about natives and Latino' in his other works.

Noticed however there is a trend these days that is a bit more balanced.

However, ive also noticed, there is now more polarization portrayal now. Either humanized or completely demonized.

Better then one sided portrayal however.

Political views have also become more polarized, so it makes sense.

If you watch the whole movie it self, you have to admit, positive or negative, the imagery consistently changes. The constants are the same however, that i do agree.
The changes are, from harem girls to ninja girls.
From Rick arabs to poor(with rich kings!)

But the hook nose 'barbarian' aspects more or less are the same.

Another thing he does not cover in his reasoning: Though all his explanations as to why arabs are protrayed as they are are very valid, he only briefly talks about the 'invisibility' of arabs in american culture. I believe he could have gone into more detail into that.

Hideous kinky...hahahaha. What kind of name is that or a movie.
