Yours to give
+++++++++++++++++++
The way to be respected is to be respectful. The way to be
heard is to listen.
What do you wish to experience? Give it to others, and you
will surely find it appearing and growing stronger in your
own life.
To make a positive impression, find the qualities that are
positive and valuable about every person you meet. What you
send is amplified through the lives of others and comes back
to you without fail.
Every day is filled with opportunities to offer genuine and
meaningful kindness. The more of those opportunities you
follow and fulfill, the richer your life becomes.
Advantages built on brute force and deception will crumble
quickly. Achievements built on kindness, respect,
understanding and love will continue to grow in value and
influence.
Give, and as you do you'll be able to give more and more.
The life of your dreams is now yours to give, and to fully
experience.

very good words and well timed for my life...cool...
reminds me of one of my oldie but goodie favs (emphasis mine):
Desiderata
-- written by Max Ehrmann in the 1920s --
Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

A Ray of Sunshine for A Shining Ray!
"I'm on a downer now ".
Ray, my friend, a sage piece of advice I got early in life, 1943, from my uncle who lived to 102 [ rest of family chortled at his advocating taking vitamins and especially selenium ... I joke that I can tone a black & white print
]:
" Being sad is a natural response to overwhelming set backs, and should be understood as such. At a certain point a spark of desire for survival ignites in one's soul, if he be so fortunate, and this spreads and devours the sadness. One way is to smile to yourself in the mirror. Your brain says that it is stupid but unbeknownst to your minds starts to respond positively."
I was told by a Colonel in DIA that in WW II Russia, that fellow snipers at Stalingrad could always tell when a fellow sniper was going to be killed that day: " He did not comb his hair. The Nazi bullet found him before the day ended."
Though it sounds Zen it again reenforced my uncle's mind/body link to survival. As for moi, even when things used to look really disheartening I would comb my hair and force a simian grimace before the mirror. It was so silly that I started the 'happy' feedback.
So, Ray, I hope you comb your hair, smile at your Mind in the mirror, and know that your friends are sending good vibes to you.
Best to you.

Ah Ray, I love IZ! And he is the perfect accompaniment to a bittersweet mood. Here's hoping you see the promise of a rainbow in the dark clouds.
And yes, I know the author of the Desiderata and that it wasn't found somewhere on a church podium. I have a book of quotes that I collect as they strike me, and that was one of the first entries, that a poem I found in my mother's journal...here's the poem for your mood:
Invictus, by William Ernest Henley
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud,
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

thanks Topos and Shana
Topos.
Sadly I have a totally shaved head
......and dodging the German bullets is pretty hard work with an artificial hip........I was depressed , but not for myself. I have a cousin that I grew up with, at that time we were as close as brothers.but we drifted apart and I haven't seen him in 20 years. I just learned that he was in hospital had pneumonia, and a stroke and was now in a coma
also his life is pretty much a mess, although I doubt that he 'll recover. But such is life

Topos.
Sadly I have a totally shaved head
