Foods to burn belly fat? Possible?
I get this update info from a fitness person, Adam Steer (Momentum Training News). Today's note was on foods that burn belly fat.
Hey, if that works, I am all for it.
Bill, or anyone else knowledgeable out there, what are you thoughts on this? I have posted the article below.
Thanks,
Vicki
PS Most of those foods look like you might want to take your Beeno with it, FWIW.

I bet you didn't know that there's a specific class of vegetable that contains very specific phytonutrients that actually help to fight against abdominal fat.
Let me explain what they are and why...
First of all, if you've already grabbed a copy of my new Fat Burning Kitchen Program then you may already know about how certain chemicals in our food supply and our environment, such as pesticides, herbicides, and certain petrochemicals from household cleaners, cosmetics, etc can act as xenoestrogens.
Xenoestrogens are chemicals that you are exposed to that have an estrogenic effect and excess exposure can cause hormone balance disruptions for both men and women. So these can wreak havoc in the body for both guys and gals.
These estrogenic chemicals that we are exposed to on a daily basis can stimulate your body to store belly fat, along with many other problems.
So here's where this specific class of vegetables comes in handy...
One of those cool tricks that I teach in my Fat Burning Kitchen program is that cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, kale, cabbage, etc. contain specific and unique phytonutrients such as indole-3-carbinol (I3C) that help to fight against these estrogenic compounds...
And by fighting against these belly fat stimulating estrogenic chemicals, this can help you fight against abdominal fat!
So there you go... just another excuse to do what mom always told you and eat more broccoli!
I've really learned to like brussells sprouts in the last year too... Melt a little grass-fed cheese on them and some garlic and they're great!
In case you haven't picked up your copy yet, I give away at least 12 other specific foods, teas, spices, etc that help to combat the xenoestrogens and can help you to burn abdominal fat faster in my new program...
make sure to grab your copy before the price doubles tomorrow:

Enjoy!

Hello, Vicki!
Here are my comments.
Make sense?
It's still good to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables. Go for lots of different colors. That will give you a good spectrum of all these trace nutrients that are so good for you.
- Bill
Here are my comments.
- There's no doubt about it; fruits and vegetables are good. The fresher and less processed, the better. The lower in nasty chemicals (pesticides, herbicides), the better. With some exceptions (like lycopene from tomatoes), raw is better than cooked.
- Fruits and vegetables contain myriad nutritional compounds called phytonutrients (translate as plant food) which are good for you. There are many, many of them, which is why a vitamin will probably never replace a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables.
- There are certain things (like stress which releases cortisol) which will cause you to put on more belly fat. Some chemicals like those that have the estrogen-like effect can do the same.

Oh, man, you are laying a major guilt trip on me, Mike...and I am naturally predispositioned for the guilt thing anyway (I was raised Catholic, same with my Jewish friends).
Here's to pancakes and bacon tomorrow and weeks of studying! I need some comfort food. Been eating my humus and salads and leaving out the sugar now in my green teas.
By the way, I made the most awesome vegetable strata two nights ago. It is like a vegetable bread pudding. It was layered with eggplant, zucchini, squash, mushrooms, onions, green onions, yellow and red peppers (and yes, fresh parmesan and cheddar cheese too), and seasoned with basil, oregano, tabasco, worschester sauce, and salt and pepper. It was amazing.
Bill...where are you when I need you?
Regards,
V.

I should have taken you some tonight to try, I had some left in the frig. I made a large pan for my daughter and her family, and a pan for us...made from fresh veggies I partially cooked in olive oil first.
Just hire me to cook. You won't be dissappointed. There are only a few things I do well. Cooking is one of them.
Hah!

Do these vegetables "target" abdominal fat? I think that when you eat healthy (and exercise) you get a healthier body composition, and it doesn't have to be more complex.
Want your butt kicked? I didn't know I had fat thighs but the plyometrics/ab DVDs from p90x has melted away some goo and given me thigh/abdominal veins. Or maybe it was cutting out more gunk in the diet. But I figure I'm in the best shape of my life.

Several friends of ours told us a while back about how amazing the PX90 is for whipping you into shape. It is a 6 day a week program and isn't for the faint of heart.
It is usually a $100 set of DVDs and covers a lot of areas...so, we bought it on Ebay a while back for $60...a great deal. We have yet to use it though.
You have inspirrd me, Ian, to get on this program. I didn't think you had an ounce of fat to spare, by the way.
Did you initially go through the whole set of DVDs and spend the many weeks to complete the program the first time? I noticed you said you did the Plyometric one? What are your thoughts on the entire program?
Regards,
Vicki

My p90x story is that my other half got it for xmas long ago and did 3 days of it then was crippled by soreness. You have to be pretty fit to do it, at least the way it's planned. I was busy several hours a week with jiujitsu and figured that was adequately exhausting me. But when we got a home gym pullup gadget (great buy! has helped me tremendously) I got into that, working on pullups and what i call reverse pushups (feet on shelves, gripping the bars meant for dips, pulling myself upwards--brings shoulder blades to center) which has helped out my rotator cuff and allowed me to do a bunch of pushups as well.
Then I did the pylo DVD probably 9 or 10 times by now, and I've also done the Abs / core one. I haven't done most of the others and try to do the core (16 minute DVD), or plyo (60 min), or chest and back (my own) routine most nights and cut out more junk from my diet. I've gained 5 pounds in the process. I do plan to check out the other DVDs but don't think I need someone to stretch me for an hour (at least that won't hardly ever be my priority) and am not sure about yoga or cardio--would rather do the plyo again, its definitely cardio as well. So on the to do list are more upper body tapes and "core synergistics" whatever that entails.
Downside to the plyo is it's higher impact so good quality mat is advised and soft catlike landings especially if knee issues are present. You can also get a sore back doing it as many of the exercises can be "cheated on" with back bending rather than all squatting, back up motions, and you get tired. It's also hard to stay flexible because I'm often sore afterwards.
But I love it and it's much more fun than a random workout. There's a guy in the tape who does everything to the max who's fun to try to keep up with, and I will admit a sick pleasure in watching friends who try to keep up just melting down and then limping for days. I know, I need help.

Land like a cat. Toe, ball-of-foot, then heel. Bend all joints simultaneously when landing.
I teach this in class again and again and again. We do some plyo exercises to help drill the principles in. I don't spoil my students on the mats; I make them learn on the wooden floor (albeit a good one). And then I demand (ahem) that my students apply those lessons in their kata.
Good stuff, Ian.

If you are brave enough, Bill, and can copy my PX90 DVDs...want a challenge? I will do them at home at the same time you do.
Wanna try it or are you buff enough already? I know I'm not.
Thanks, Ian, for the info.
I love being pushed hard, even at my age.
Later,
Vicki

Um, I do my very best to cat-land on every landing. But when you're jumping for 90 minutes, the body does notice! You should see the video Bill, there is a lot of silent cat landing encouragement.
I just did the cardio-X tape; my guy wasn't up to plyo on joint workout day. It's not cardio x, it's more potpourri x. Plyo, yoga, kenpo all mixed. I will say I enjoyed the core synergistics stuff so I'll do that one next and report. I will NOT being doing the kenpo karate stuff. Swell that it gets your heart rate up, but the impracticality of it all will break the heart of any Uechi person. Do your kata vigorously. Or you can do a drill from my class teaching days: 10x kata. Do each move 10x hard and fast before moving on. Gets interesting as the katas lengthen and especially as you jump forward and back 10 x in Seisan.
