One final thought... The political overtones reminded me a bit of reading Kurt Vonnegut novels as a teenager. Fun stuff... My mom (Catholic) would get upset at the overpopulation politics of that era. But it's difficult to argue with Vonnegut's imagination - even if he starts repeating himself from novel to novel.Great movie; intrusive politics

After seeing the previews and listening to my friends, I came to this movie with great trepidation. Allegedly the movie was anti capitalist, anti military, pro eco-Nazi, and in general a white liberal guilt trip.
The special effects were stunning. I easily got lost in the movie, even though it was at least half animation. The transitions from real to animation were seamless. Given my penchant for seeing what they are doing rather than what they wish to portray, that's quite a compliment.
The eco-Nazi stuff was there, but not quite that bad. The movie reminded me just a bit of Dances with Wolves, but wasn't in-your-face like The Secret of NIMH. There was *A* bad corporation and *A* misguided military leader. The scientists were the "good guys" without being Al Gore politicians. The science fiction was excellent - particularly the parts about mind/body transfer and the planet's plant life inter-connectivity.
I saw this with my son (11). Great family movie! A pleasant experience.
