Walks and Conditioning of Calves

Post by emattson »

I discovered that speed walking is an excellent way to condition calves' muscles. No special equipment is necessary; Purchase comfortable sneakers and you're good to go. On every step, calf muscles raise the foot and pushes forwards. Hills and carrying heavy bags make the workout harder.

Muscular calves gives the person some important advantages including:
- Greater ankle strength and stability
- Excellent balance
- Improved performance in running and sprinting

Running away is a great defense against a thug, though it doesn't feel honorable. It's possible that strong calves enable a karate expert to rapidly jump from one place to another to get into the best striking position. I like to know anyone's thoughts on that.

What's interesting is that strong calf muscles improve running endurance, but I cannot run very far before tiring. Either I'm jogging using incorrect form or I need to strengthen other set of muscles.

A study has shown that increasing calf circumference has been associated with reduced carotid plaques. Carotid plaques often cause strokes.
