Web 'censorship'

Post by Greg »

Anthony,

I mentioned in a post on another forum (I think the "law" forum) that part of my close to a previous post seemed to have been replaced by some stars, and I couldn't figure out why this had occurred. Well, since you didn't reply, I have had to turn my brilliant deductive mind to this problem. Fortunately, this took me only about a week...

I noticed on one of your posts on Canna Sensei's forum, that you had quite a lot of stars in your message. At first, I thought you were just being dramatic in your typing, but then, it suddenly occurred to me - we are being censored! I assume (dangerous!) that this is a built in aspect of the bulletin board? Is there a way to change it? Not that I mind stars, particularly, but when, in my closing to Mattson Sensei, I typed "Domo Arigato Gozaiima****a," it didn't all come out (there it goes again, I'll wager). If there is not a way to turn this feature off, is there a way to at least modify it to only change whole words? I do have to admit that your creative spelling of some words impressed me though...

Thanks,
Greg

Anthony. I don't mind the restriction because I can type in my feelings as I go along the editor takes care of the details to help prevent offending anyone in the language department. -- Allen

I don't mind the blockage of the true cussing..but it seems stupid that the programs "grabs" words out of words. Unless this can be fixed, I would say dump the word blocking. If people get out of hand with their language, I am sure the "community" will let the offender know and apply the appropriate peer pressure. Image

I believe that at certain times, certain words actually convey a particular meaning. To get a point across. It would quit obvious to everyone if a person was using "certain words" just to be a jerk-%$#. This is the '90's and most of these words, if not all, have actually made their way to the dictionary. Besides, we all know that you don't need curse words (cuss for everywhere outside NY) to offend anybody here. IMHO, I say remove the block and let's see what happens. Abusers will be banished to the site of Necro-Do where thou shalt keep the Sabbath holy and "due". (Anthony knows what I mean)
