Tony-san et-al,

On Thursday roadrunner will take over my PC.

What do I need to do to my forum preferences in order to make for a smoother transition? Like how do I handle the change of email address? Anything else? How do I get the old provider to forward mail from the old address to the new one?

Also how do I clear the search history from any of the search engines, history contained between the “ marks”?? Like every time you want to start a search of a subject between the “ marks” the whole history of previous searches pops up!!

Thanks,

Van

For the forums:
1. Click on "PROFILE"
2. Change your e-mail addy
3. Click "Submit Modifications"
Your done!
As for getting you mail forwarded That's a call to the ISP and ask them how to set it up. Most ISP's will forward mail. Best bet is to mass mail everyone 2-3 times letting them know the e-mail address has changed.
As for the search history auto completeing which browser/version is it?
As a side note, do you have a home network?
If so you may want to consider ZoneAlarms FREE firewall.

Chuck,

Thanks for the response!
My browser is IE-5!

What happens is when using any search engine, such as AltaVista, Northern light, etc., and framing search words in Quotation marks [“], The next time I try a search by beginning to type in the quotation mark [“], the entire history of previous searches within the marks, scrolls down. Is there any way to clear that?

Thanks

Van,
For the autocomplete thing follow this:
1. Click on Tools
2. Click on Internet Options
3. Click on Content
4. Click on Auto Complete
5. Click on Clear Forms
That should take care of it

Chuck,

One more favor, please.

Roadrunner supports outlook express only and media one can’t tell me how to configure Eudora, which I had been using through my old ISP [ICI]!

Any idea how to get Eudora to receive and send through roadrunner?

Also, with outlook express, although I have set the option of playing a sound when mail arrives, there is no sound to be heard!

Can you help?

I suspect you've already gone into Tools/ Options, updating the checking mail and sending mail options in Eudora and have made the appropriate changes.

If not, you may need to copy the settings from inside Outlook Express. One question, is that ICI (and most ISPs) use POP3. Media One is a different animal and it may not use a POP3 account, but that would be a simple configuration issue.

Outlook Express is not good.

I'm not sure if this is much help, but in lieu of expert advice with those people, this is the best I can do except to call them up directly.

Allen,

Thanks for the reply.
I think roadrunner uses pop 3, but how do I find out by checking Outlook’s settings?

If it does, how do I configure Eudora?

Media one will not help in configuring Eudora because they claim they support IE-5 and Outlook!

Thanks,

Van,
Outlook express = Trouble. If your going to play with outlook express step-up to OUTLOOK it's better and much more power packed.
Media One aka RoadRunner is a pop3/smtp server. Standard stuff.
Uh I haven't used Eudora in 5 years so I will be rusty Image
Any way Road Runner has a pretty standard setup for mail and news servers.
Try the following settings:
For the POP server enter: pop-server
For the SMTP server enter: smtp-server
For the NNTP server enter: news-server
That's a nation wide standard.
If those don't work or time out try:
pop-server.XXXXX.XX.com
smtp-server.XXXXX.XX.com
news-server.XXXXX.XX.com
XXXXX is what ever the stuff is after you email address i.e. mine is @cfl.rr.com so I use pop-server.cfl.rr.com
This seems to help speed things up Image
if you can do some screen shots of Eudoras configuration settings that would help. If not tell me which version and I'll look it up and see what I can get for you.

I am away from my PC, but when I get home, either before or after Uechi class, if you still need assistance, I can offer roadside consulting assistance with Eudora at your doorstep. Been through this with Eudora Pro 4.x a number of times, but need it in front of me to be able to relate exactly what you need to do. There are only a few lines which need to be changed, and they are in the areas oulined in my previous repost.

All you have to do is match them with what you installed in Outlook Express. Being unfamiliar with Express, I'd have to fumble my way into that application to find what I need, unless Media One gave you a crib asheet on how to install your PC to their server.

Glad Chuck also knows that Express is an express into heartache.
