Isn't today the day a mutant of the love bug virus is supposed to hit PCs?

Unlike the love bug, this one is supposed to wipe your hard disk as clean as a whistle.

Ahem, It affects ONLY Outlook users...

So if you know of anyone, ahem, tooling with outlook, today may be your unlucky day.

I've had problems accessing the forums as well. Really slow download times - lots of waiting.

I attributed it to the growing success of the forums (almost 600 registered!).

I just received eight e-mail messages (spam) with the same heading:

instead of a name as sender, it contained an email address. It looked diffent and I didn't even highlight it. Since I use Outlook, I'm particularly sensitive about attachments, but now I'm wondering if someone could send me a message that activates itself merely by clicking on the heading to view the message????

This latest Loveme virus really is scary. Since it changes the heading with every infection, there isn't any way to know which one of your messages is real!

Any suggestions?

I am using Norton anti virus and I have it set to check email as it comes through. I haven't had any attachments to any mail (yet) but I do update the signature files online often. I am using Outlook Express. I used to use Netscape's mail program but I kinda got used to Outlook express now. Both work well.

I would hope everybody is using some kind of anti virus program and updating it often. Just having it is not good enough.

A good idea to never open attachments in any email program...

One thing that sinks Outlook users is the "preview pane" feature. Just don't use that or the autopreview and follow safe mail practice - (don't open attachments, delete mail from addresses you do not recognize etc. - use a virus scan for all incoming mail) and you shouldn't have problems - even with Outlook.

Those are great words of wisdom, Lori, but how many actually do heed them?

We are on the verge of a new breed of infectious viruses, and the torch of vigilance must never extinguish. I am considering installing a firewall, and/or have a dedicated email PC.

To be on the safe side, don't open any attachments. . .

I'm assuming that this only applies to us outlook users!

BTW, I'm experiencing great difficulties getting on these forums today. Veeery slow! Anyone else affected by this slow-down?

Agreed Allen-san!

Neat idea about the dedicated email PC...

And that link you posted about the "spy" viruses (virii?) was interesting... all those worries about "black helicopters" (Tony teases me about that) seem to be gaining credence every day! The worst probably can't even be imagined yet...

Anybody ever still use a pen and paper?

Sigh.

Lori,

Something from the north will be arriving in the south. [I hope you are good with riddles.]
