I was in the control panel updating the summary page for the womens forum. When I submitted the changes the forum quit running. This has always been a permissions problem. I checked the permissions on the file I changed (Forum7/forumstyles.file) and it was like rw-rw-rw which is wrong. It should have been rwx-rx-rx (or 755). I went to run chmod on the file and the server wouldn't let me run the command. Obviously Harry's new internet provider has some work to do in this regard. Unfortunatley, I cannot get the forum to run without the permissions being set properly. What is also unfortunate is that this will impact the other forums as well, though it won't impact it unless changes are made. I looked at the file and my changes made it in there but the UBBS isn't pulling the information out of the file to run the forum. Permissions problem.

Actually, now that I think about it. The problem is probably related to the Forum not being able to set permissions. If I (gmattson) couldn't from the shell then neither could the ubbs (aka Nobody in Unix). Someone needs to find out why CHMOD is no longer available to gmattson.
I looked in some of the other directories and the forumstyles.file was not in there. "Nobody" (the UBB) must have created the file when I sumbitted something other then the default setting and tried to write the proper permissions to it.

Tony,
Do you need the "Administrator" title to access certain maintenance areas?

I moved the file forumstyles.file out of the /Forum7 directory and the forum came back up. *sheesh* what a pain. Harry needs to figure out the CHMOD problem before the UBBS can create new files I think. Anyway, for the time being, there cannot be a webring link in the womens forum.

Still some minor problems whenever Harry (or anyone?) has a chance to work on the forum again - in the interim the logo has been lost - and - also most of the prior posts! I was in the process of archiving a few things from the past couple years and currently I can't get much farther back than late last year... any help appreciated! I was able to access posts from 1998 just last week.
Thanks,
Lori

Ok, the logo is fixed. I can't put the HTML code in the footer wihtout crashing the forum. I don't know why. I'd have to go to UBB tech support and find out why the footer isn't taking HTML.

I think the reason I can't add the HTML to the footer is because the HTML is bad.
