Hi Maurice:

I tried to e-mail you regarding your forum registration, but the email bounced back as undeliverable. Now I know why.

For general interest: Your registration is based on your email address. If you change email address, you must re-register. The only way you can use your old username is to let one of the administrators know, so he can delete your old registration information.

Good to see you back on-line. BTW, on Friday, I'm getting "Road Runner" cable modem installed. My old DSL provider (RoadRunner) went belly-up and NorthPoint generously offered to continue service for a one time fee of $25 and an additional $10 per month charge. ATT, who purchased Media One, who earlier purchased Cable One, has been making huge inroads into becoming a monopoly again, by offering big savings on TV digital cable, Tel service and now internet service. Guess what will happen once all the competition is gone????

Been there, Done that. But what can we do?

Maybe everywhere else but here on Long Island, Cablevision's Optimum Online Has been rated one of the best if not the best. I have no problems and I can sometimes hit 340 kps downloads depending on the site. (That's important)

BTW: The new '72 tournament clip is up.

So here I am, finally back on line with a cable modem. Man is it fast. I am thrilled. Downloads are so fasti don't even hae time to go get a cup of coffee. All those videos are a pleasure.

It seems our Canadian cable providers are a bit more advanced than you poor folks south of the border. The servers are scalable and they upgrade pretty quickly. After two weeks I'm really spoiled and soooo impatient when I try and get something from a slow web site.

later,
maurice

Thanks George,

I got it straightened out when I realized which email address I was subscribed from. Everything is fine now.

Boy, this thing is fast--Streaming Media is a real pleasure these days.

I'm glad to hear that you've got your problems straightened out as well.

It's good to be back, I guess I'll have to start asking dumb questions again;-).

later,
maurice

Hey Tony!

It's good to be back!

I'm glad to see that the cable companies are starting to get their collective acts together. In a few years we will all wonder how the hell we functioned at 56kbps.

Speaking of which , I just got Net Moniter, a free utility from ZDnet that moniters your access speed, etc. What's really interesting is that while my connection speed is consistently between 300 and 425 kbps, my actual tranfer rate from a lot--read that "most"--web sites is around 10 or lower.

Go figure.

later assorted dudes and dudettes,

maurice

You can also check out Microsoft's access speed check. Not as good as always monitoring but interesting to see what speeds you can get.

Check Out: http://msn.zdnet.com/partners/msn/bandwidth/speedtest.htm

This is a screen capture of what I rec'd a few minutes ago. This is connection speed... I wish I could download this fast.

I just downloaded ZDNET's net monitor. Really cool. When I clicked on "True Speed" the 1st time it came up with 475kb. Now it reads 631.69 kb. Another click here... 601.52. I guess it goes up and down.

Anyway... this has some nice features.
