Hi all,
As you may have gathered - we had a lot to deal with in Florida last week - it got pretty intense!
The headlines on the local paper said nail-biter! and I suppose that was as an apt description of any - I live on the East Coast, and they ordered a mandatory evacuation of our area on Monday - and there was a flurry of activity trying to protect life and limb before we got out of here - I'll save the horror stories, but we spent 8 1/2 hours in line for plywood to board up the house, and spent all of Monday until past midnight securing things as best we could - but a direct hit would have put my house and dojo under water without a doubt - (I'm less than a mile from the ocean's edge.) As it was, the waves came over the dunes and over the highway that runs along the ocean in some parts...
Tony also lives on the barrier island - and I really felt for him after just getting his life back after the house fire! How many disasters can his insurance company handle!
We headed for the center of the state - and spent a tense Tuesday as predictions were sending 100 mph winds even into our area - thankfully it turned though and we really dodged a bullet as they say.
We suffered only minor damage - Daytona Beach lost a good part of its famous pier as you may have seen on the news (the site of MTV's summer specials) and we have some signs down, some roof damage, blown away fences and trees - but all in all we are in good shape. My house only lost a tree - and the worst part was that electric was only restored as of late last night. Now we are still trying to put things back in place and clean up a little, but very thankful that we escaped the full wrath of the storm.
For those who sent emails and ICQ's: thanks for asking about us! We are very fortunate.
So now back to the business of life - nothing like a threatening hurricane to put things into perspective!
Peace,
Lori

Lori:
Good to hear you are over the tribulation with the evacuation, which was more of an ordeal probably than Floyd itself.
Here in the Big Bend area of Florida, we struggled with the mass exodus of all these strangers clogging up the highways, the biways, the motels, the rest stops and Walmart parking lots, all looking for a safe repite from Floyd and a good snooze.

WELL THE FUN NEVER ENDS!!!
Just as we got rid of Floyd - now we are getting a direct hit by a tropical storm named HARVEY as of tomorrow! Schools, governments and businesses are closed and we are facing ANOTHER evacuation because of potential flooding!
Well I guess when it rains it pours!
Bad joke. Bad, bad joke.
Maybe one of these days I'll have a day where I can actually contribute to these forums again!
Peace,
Lori

So...why do people want to live in Florida? Something to do with the wonderful weather?
Thank-you, but no. I'll stay with the tornadoes and the once-in-a-100year floods.
Be-careful and hurry back.
