"Life with Billy" is a survivors story of living with a man that created deep fear in not only his family but the entire community. They resided only minuits from here and yes he was what the movie and book protray him as and seemed untouchable ( mentally and physically dominant) until Jane shot him while he slept. She was succesful in self defense claim and went on to spearhead anti abuse groups..until her suicide. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/077042239X/

More harrowing, more brutal than The Burning Bed, Life with Billy will appeal to all
true-crime fans. This is the story of Jane Stafford and her six-year ordeal of unimaginable
abuse at the hands of her common-law husband, Billy Stafford--and of the night Jane
killed Billy with a shotgun.

her only defense
The years he created terror all were frozen in fear, his actions were not by any means secretive yet to confront him was unthinkable. Life went on in the community around him and Jane only received support after she pulled the trigger..then the niegbours felt safe enough openly discuss Billy.
her only defense
Billy demonstrated that few will retaliate against forcing your will with fear as the weapon. I still hear from others that he was a coward and only dominated the "weaker females/ children" ( he still controlled his ex wife) However, I disagree as no male stood up to him because of the fear he created. How do we deal with such people?
