Allen,

They should just load and run if you click on it. It's a straight shot to the video clip as if clicking on it from the video page. Try it again.

Anybody else having problems?

If so, I'll put the .asf files in the ftp and make it downloadable. All an .asf (streaming video) file is is a compressed .avi file to make it load and run faster in your media player. The .asx you may see as the extension links to the .asf.

The low resolution video worked for me - for some reason I can't get sound on my MS RealVideo (although I get sound off other programs!), so I can't tell whether the lack of sound was from my end or the clip - I suspect my end.

But I saw it, and yes, 'twas funny!

It warms my soul to see that we have a lot of talented people on this earth with so much time on their hands.

Panther, can you read the characters there? I could make some of them out, but not all of them. I asked my resident Chinese here at work to read them, and she came up with something that...well...was appropriately silly or perhaps it was lost in the translation from Japanese to Chinese. It appears to give a name of a fictitious karate style.

Thanks for the clip,

Although designed to entertain, the man in the clip appears to be correctly doing a Chi-Gung exercise called ,among other names,---"pulling the bow". Anyone know who this man is.

Might be fun to recreate this in the dojo to entertain the kids/adults.

On the left is written: "Karate Musente", which means, "There is no "first hand" in Karate", or, "No first strike in Karate".

On the right (in a twisting of the popular calligraphy?) says, "Sente Musente", meaning ???!!

Sen te: The first or preceeding hand/strike; Musente: Without (or void of) the first hand/strike. Maybe, "Having the upper hand without having to strike first"?

Your guess is as good as mine here! I'm not familiar with the second calligraphy. . .

Apologies, I quit reading the thread and just came back over to get the video and show it to someone for a laugh...

Now, My Nihongo is almost as bad as my Eigo and isn't anywhere as good as Gary's, but...

I think this is one of those infamous Japanese "play on words". Gary's translation is correct from the standpoint of the words and their meaning, but IIRC (and it's been a long time and I can't even carry on a basic conversation anymore, so don't bet on this), the Kanji translated as "Mu-sen-te" (the 3-5th Kanji on the left) when put together is pronounced as "na-ku-te" and means "for want of" or "in the absense of" (basically "without").

But on the right side, I have to disagree with Gary's reading. Reading it again, I'm sure he would agree that the 3-5th kanji aren't "Mu-sen-te". I think he's inadvertently switched the 3rd & 4th Kanji. When the 3rd Kanji is read alone it's "Shi-tsu", but when it's used in a sentence like this, (again, IIRC) it's pronounced "na" and means "lose", "loss", "miss", "forget", "error", "fault", "disadvantage" and (in some rare instances) "demerit". With the change of the 3rd & 4th Kanji, that means the 4th & 5th Kanji combine to be "mu-te". The term "mu-te-(de)" means "empty-handed" (with bare hands) or "unarmed". This is juxtaposed with the upper first two Kanji on the left which are "Kara-te" (also meaning "empty-hand"

)...

So I believe it reads (but with the various pronounciations depending on usage for each Kanji, it could be off):

Kara-te na-ku-te ... Sen-te na Mu-te

Which basically means:

Karate for want of ... the first move (being) missed (leaves you) unarmed

Khoury-sensei... sound right? Or how far off is that?
