Re: How Your Child Can Safely Practice Martial Arts at Home

Military March

One of my friends commented that during his military career, he along with others, would practice military marching techniques for hours. Each step would end with the heel hitting the surface hard to produce a satisfying thud. Unfortunately, the regular impact will cause nerve damage. Unfortunately ...

Re: Tips for Staying Consistent with Your Wellness and Self-Care Goals

"Storing weekly reflections as PDFs..."

I never care for PDFs. I do admit I'm bias after suffering from so many problems trying to convert PDF documents during my previous job. I'm never the type who like to leave my document alone; I continually tweak, reword, or fix typos. PDF doesn't have the ...

Tips for Staying Consistent with Your Wellness and Self-Care Goals

By Charley Sunday

If you remember nothing else: consistency is built from structure, not motivation. Wellness works best when your goals are small enough to repeat, visible enough to track, and flexible enough to survive real life.

"alcohol was strictly forbidden"

Kanbun Uechi had a point. A designated driver is morally prohibited from even drinking a single glass of beer. Just one or two glasses of alcohol can affect vision, judgment, overall awareness, reaction times, and concentration-- all necessary for good self-defense ...

Subway Attack!

Iryna Zarutska, a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee, was recently stabbed to death by Decarlos Brown Jr. It happened on the Lynx Blue Line train, in Charlotte, North Carolina. This brings up a major flaw on my primary form of defense--running away from violent people. In a train car, you're trapped ...

Re: Ancient Diet

Maybe one reason so many media show cavemen as eating mainly meat is because spears and other hunting tools were so common in archeology finds, but fragile baskets used for plant harvesting almost never survive. Today's hunter and gatherers view hunting as a prestige job and celebrate every kill ...

Squats

When doing squats, be sure not to drop too low. At most, the upper leg should be parallel to the floor. Any lower will put too much stress to the kneecaps.
