Once again, when two idiots meet, tragedy shows up also.

Idiot #1 (aka the victim), Idiot #2 (aka the retired cop). When someone in the movie theater says "stop texting", stop texting or go to the lobby and do it. Do not respond by escalating the situation by arguing with the other guy and throwing something in his face. It's a sure fire way to ...

Re: Old-Style Kung Fu Movie; Modern Cinematography

Only Japanese occupation and subsequent extreme poverty forced him to teach so he could eat. I wouldn't take anything in the films seriously or as close to accurate history. From what I understand Ip was a policeman both before, during and after the Japanese occupation and only high tailed it to Ho...

Good observation Marcus.
Here are two more videos. The Gary Lam video is the one Izzo references in his.

Re: Wing Chun that doesn't look bad.

Right. What I liked about the instructor was he didn't cry "foul!" when the kid started going off of the normal Chi Sau script, especially with the kid being a visitor and a junior in the style. I think he rather enjoyed it. Wing chun is very scientific in a sense, becuase the people who k...

Re: Wing Chun that doesn't look bad.

But what happens when one of the parties doesn't play Chi Sau properly, like the big red headed kid? What would that look like? And what is the "real deal" in any martial art, is there really a "real deal" or just what a person does? Is there a real deal Tai Chi Chuan, Uechi, Sho...

Re: Wing Chun that doesn't look bad.

Izzo has 13 or so years of training. Here's another of his videos that shows the experience. In the first part Danny Horgan looks sloppy but still looks like more than a handful, while Izzo gets hit but maintains much of his structure. Without which I think Horgan would have rolled over him. In the ...

Re: Wing Chun that doesn't look bad.

Hi Hokie, Feuds in martial arts are well known, especially these days, and especially in arts like Wing Chun for various reasons. So he's not exposing anything that hasn't already been going on for decades. I'm not senior enough to feel I have a right to publicly question anyone other than for infor...

Re: Wing Chun that doesn't look bad.

Honestly he's refreshing , but I cringe a little with how he's trying to help because its familiar , But his points are valid I have no doubt he has the best intentions , but in my experience its not an effective way to generate an audience, you can lead a horse to water and all that. We've been th...

Re: Wing Chun that doesn't look bad.

But is what he trying to say so bad? What I hear him saying is that everyone needs to make their Wing Chun (and by extension martial art) their own. To me that doesn't sound bad. Now, I'm not sure about the video as I know nothing about him, or the Wing Chun community and how they're received it. I...

It's really not that he's saying it about Wing Chun, but that he's saying it about his art. 8)

Re: Wing Chun that doesn't look bad.

So my point is, if a Leo tries to teach self defence his perception of himself is reflected back on him from the mirror of his intereaction with others often gives him a false impression of just how good he is.....folks will back down against a blue uniform, but not against the same little fat guy ...

Re: Wing Chun that doesn't look bad.

yeah it's like a joke I heard " How many Wing chun guys does it take to change a light bulb?" answer " it doesn't matter how many, they'll all say the other guys are doing it wrong" Yup, here's a vid where he calls the local guys on it, but really the second short lesson is pret...

Wing Chun that doesn't look bad.

I like this guy's approach and it has a lot of similarities to how my friend taught karate.

Re: Need source... Kanbun's alleged kill technique

From the WC guys I know a lot if not most lineages do not have chin na ( or at least don't emphasize it), a few do. But for the most part the WC guys I've trained with did not like most locks as they break WC principles, and those boys do like their principles.
