Hello, Everybody!

I just started studying Uechi-Ryu. I hope to talk and exchange knowledge! I already have one doubt! One of the blocks with the wrist, is it called shokou? is this correct? what would be the kanji? thank you very much and happy to be here. Greetings!

Welcome to the Forums Heber and thank you for the question.

You mention having some "doubts" about a wrist block and there are many blocks where the wrists are involved in the action. Of course, if a technique is not performed correctly is also a possible reason for it not working. I suggest you show us how the move is performed and in which kata it is being used as a good beginning for a discussion on it's effectiveness.

We have upgraded the Forums and many things have changed regarding posting. I suggest you video tape the movement, save it to YouTube and post a link to it in your topic.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

George Mattson

Hello, Mattson Sensei!
Greetings!

About the "Shukou" defense, I saw it here:

https://www.traditionaluechi-ryu.com/eng/shukouke.html

Now, looking more closely, it seems to me the Koi no Shippo techniques, in their yoko and tate forms... what do you think?

Respectfully,

Heber

Interesting clips by Kanei Uechi grandchild. The link you posted comes from an application in the Konshin kata. The video shows a block and grab technique. It is, in my estimation correct.
