You need to replace your avatar with a Kiwi.

But Poutine is some good food. There is only one place in edmonton that has some REAL poutine.

All the other places use normal cheese, and not cheese curds :x

I got the lecture on cheese curds last night mate. They got to be fresh. Apparently the poutine in the west ***** because the curds ******....But it's also better than no poutine. His eyes got kind of all glassy like he was talking about his first love.

It's kind of like beer, some is crap but when you have none at all it will do.

Ive resorted to home made poutine.

I use chicken gravy. It's pretty good, but very different.

You might might want to go back and read my initial post on the why I have a family "grudge."

Your making it WAAAAAYYYYYY more serious and reading far more into it than I do.

My grandfather had a poor experience--all the more so given the situation.
I also personally had a very poor experience in many locations in France--esp Paris-- when I was traveling.

And I witnessed more than I was involved in.

But I DON'T tar ALL french people the same brush--had many good experiences as well.

(do enjoy a good joke about the French military :))

THATS YOU PUTTING WORDS IN MY MOUTH AND CASTING MY FEELINGS AND ACTIONS THU YOUR "LENS."

I simply expressed a "family grudge" and the reasons why.

Its YOU and folks LIKE you that persist in making it something its not.

Which says far more about YOU folks and YOUR outlooks than it does about mine.

Never called anyone an "ass-hole"--certainly did not apply the term to ALL the French.
NEVER did anything even CLOSE to that.

In answer to your question--yes, many Americans are and have been jerks--they deserve to be mocked for it.
Someone wants to tell jokes about Americans--that's cool with me, lord knows soem of us certainly deserve it.

I only hope that when I hear them I can retain at least some degree of rationality about at.
Retain at least some some sense of humor.

I would hate to think that I joined the ranks of those that are so over top the "PC" that I can't even enjoy a joke at my own expense----no matter how well deserved or or how funny.

I never want to take life that seriously.

I believe Willy (Laird) apologized. Apologies are rare events on the macho forums. We should take note, and respond accordingly. Basically I think he got your point. So we should call it a day and put it behind us, no? 8)

The thing I've found interesting about the thread is that it's given those who wish to do a little further reading an opportunity to learn a little bit. If the cup isn't overflowing, there's plenty of reference material (see my link to French people) for folks to study. I found some of the semantic arguments going on actually quite enlightening.

I wish I was more awake on a Saturday morning, but... The Today Show Saturday morning was interviewing a Hollywood critic/satirist about the new TV shows coming up in the fall. Generally these guys are brought onboard in an interview to add a bit of levity to the "terrible purpose" of Hollywood and world events. One new show in the lineup was rather interesting in a morbid and silly way. They throw a bunch of groups on a desert island, each representing an ethnic group. In this "reality show", the idea is that food will be scarce, and they're supposed to bargain, wheel, and deal to figure out which of the people on the island are going to end up as food in the end. No kidding... 8O Anyhow, the critic had it all figured out. "I think the Irish group is going to lose." Then he did a little gesture with his hand, signifying someone bringing a bottle of spirits up to his mouth.

Being part Irish AND being secure in myself and my people, I was able to laugh at the stereotype. And quite frankly when you think about recipies for food items such as bourbon balls or beer batter chicken, the thought of eating Irish flesh marianated in some Irish whiskey is frankly quite the funny modest proposal.

Rule number 1 of humor - you MUST be able first to laugh at yourself.

Rule number 2. If someone can easily push your buttons, find out why. This is not to excuse others for doing that. But there's no reason to get emotionally hijacked from someone elses' bad behavior. To do so is to let them control you. Is this what you want? Does getting engaged in an emotional debate or beating the *%&$ out of them solve the problem within?

Like I said, its not so much what he said--its the sloppy part of it that bugs me.

Then in his last post to me, he more or less denied that he did it.

That is simply not in keeping with the facts of the situation.

I make a mistake--I say "I made a mistake."

I own anyone an "I'm sorry" I give it.

Period.

Mistakes are one thing--everyone makes mistakes--EVERYBODY--lord knows I have made my own share in the past, and I will make more :)

But I have little patience for "spin" and no patience at all for purposeful, willing, deception.

I bear no "grudge" :) or dispite for Laird/Willy or anyone else in this discussion.

(Actually I have a good deal of respect for Laird, Stryke, Aaamed, etc--seriously)

That being the case, this is the last I will post on ANYTHING that has gone before on this topic.

I'm Scots/Irish, more than few jokes going around with that group.
The thing is that some of them are quite funny--even to me.

I just think we need to seperate non-obscene "jokes" from seriously intended racial/ethinc slurs.

We need to look at context, circumstance and intent.

Failing to do so---going right to "PC" vipertation over humor---I feel that is the wrong path to take.

When the slightest, slight, is instantly "spun" into claims of it being a "de-facto racism."

It makes it nearly impossible to "connect" at all.

If everyone is running around with their quills all extended like a PC porcupine--their "offense" pistols cocked and locked, round in the chamber, saftey off and finger on the trigger----is it any wonder why its hard to get togather on much more serious issues?

We get so bogged down in the triva that it becomes impossible to get make any progress on real issues.
