Is anyone familiar with the rules of American point karate (AOK, NBL etc.) and the Karate Union of Great Britain? I'm curious as to how the rules differ. Competitors in both organizations seem to be fighting for points but their styles are drastically different even when the same type of protective gear is used. The KUGB seems to have no backfists and emphasizes closing and getting a reverse punch. Point fighters here tend to rely on lead backfists, lead side kicks and lead round kicks. I'm guessing that in the KUGB kicks and punches both count for a single point whereas in the States a kick scores 2 point and a hand strike scores 1. Any thoughts?

I know that NASKA scores basically any technique (hammer fists, knife hands, ridge hands) as one point, so there is a very large incentive to use quick jab-type attacks.
I don't know anything about UK rules, but I googled it and as far as I can tell there are degrees of scoring based on how decisive the hit is. If that is anything like the WTF TKD rules, you need to "visibly rock the body" to score a decisive point, so things like backfists aren't going to cut it.
