Strange Letter!!
I was clearing my desk this morning and came across a really strange letter sent to me a couple months ago. When I first opened the envelope I was thinking Amthrax!! Then, just some kid upset with a teacher in Brunswick, Ohio! Today, when I read the warning, I decided to publish it to see if anyone knows the person mentioned. Normally I throw away the few crank letters I get, but this one was soooo strange. . . GEM

Hey! I know Rodger Audette. He and I were going to be candidates for Shodan under Eddie DeCosta at the same promotional in Providence until I moved away from New England that fall. Rodger was a top student tof Eddy.
Looks like it was written by a kid, though.

While many things can contribute to the creation of a letter like this done in this kind of way - one contibuting factor can / may be mental illness.
A manic need to fill in details, the use of color, the paranoia and the lack of a point are serious signs not to dismiss this out of hand.
Rage may not be far behind if you break his / her rules.

Hair stands on neck, not written by a child. I would remove all these post. Think of motive for sending to you in particular. What would you be thinking writting those thoughts ? Likely harmless but ...

Strange Letter!!
Well I think you guys are reading a tiny bit too much into this letter. After 20+ years as a High School teacher, this letter has all the signs of being produced by a fairly ordinary 13 to 15 year old who was frightened in some way by the individual mentioned. Kids who don't know who to turn to usually resort to bizarre ways of expressing themselves. Reading anything else into it is pure speculation, and I M H O best left alone. Respectfully, _(_)_ Tune

Strange Letter!!
Too much Yin.
Day corresponds to Yang and night to Yin. Light, Sun, Brightness and Activity are Yang. Darkness, Moon, Shade and Rest are Yin.
It is an interesting comment to have on the corner of the page. Usually in chinese medicine, if you say that someone has too much yin that means they are cold, quiet, inhibited, slow to move, they may have an accumulation water.
If you have too much Yang you are prone to restlessness, insomnia, dryness, hyperactivity, loudness.
The writer may be trying to say "too much darkness" implying the need to shed light on the situation. That is my best guess.

It's difficult to judge what's going on here. Clearly the person that wrote this letter is attempting to draw attention from George to Roger Audette.
quote:
While many things can contribute to the creation of a letter like this done in this kind of way - one contibuting factor can / may be mental illness.

Sylvia Naser's book A Beautiful Mind speaks to the strange, compulsive, and manic letter-writing activity of John Nash during his delusional periods. He too would write paranoid letters in multi-colored pen or crayon to dozens of influential people in government, academic administrators, and former colleagues. In the case of John Nash, the presumed diagnosis is (was) paranoid schizophrenia.
It is possible...
My thoughts are 1) save the letter, and 2) check out the gentleman referenced in a quiet and respectful manner.

I think the more important consideration here is that someone needs help.
I have received letters like this before. I've never known them to be the source of anything but someone in need of some kind of professional attention, whether it be legal or medical.

Let's not forget this person could be reading this forum. He/she found out GEM's address somehow after all. This forum might be a good opportunity to offer some helpful advice.
