New Kata?

I may be way behind on this knowledge, but I heard that the Okikukai (Sho-hei-ryu?) has added a new kata?

Could someone please provide details on this?

Actually I have one of the Shohei Ryu books written in Japanese. There's a non-Uechi kata in there. I can't remember what it is, but I know the form. (I think it's one of the early Goju instructional forms like Fukyu kata.) It's basically just stealing someone else's basic form to teach your own students fundamentals of the other guy's karate. That's not a bad idea.

I'll look it up and let you know the form.

Bill information is right. I have seen the book and Bill is correct that some of the Shohei Ryu schools have begun to teach these but, quite frankly, I don’t know if many are. I believe it was three baisc Kata. (Long stance turn low block reverse punch step high block reverse punch that kind of stuff.)

However, the OKIKUKIA was also creating a ninth Kata. I know that they had progressed a long way but it had to be approved by a committee (so hey it may never happen). My information is about five years old though.

Mark Brelsford might know if it was completed and is being practiced.

Yes there is a new kata, Ryuko (Dragon/Tiger) it is said to be an "advanced" kata, what ever that means . It is being practiced and used in different dojos.

Thanks for the information ... I heard it was a kata after Sanseiryu and that it was not Superimpei.

Maybe someone out there has a video of it being demonstrated?
