yeah, but it started out as a US thing because they (the okinawans) hated Americans but loved our Money and that inner-conflict eventually manifested into what is now the useless and phycologically destructive "Sanchin Test".Bill Glasheen wrote:This isn't just a US thing.

Who gets hit in the abdominal wall on the street?
Show this 'extreme conditioning' to a boxer and see what reaction you get.
Then show it to street punks about to take you out, like kicking a parking meter, and see
You are welcome to test me as hard as you want in the abdominal wall.
Then it will be 'my turn'_ and be sure to look forward to a wired jaw.

I'm getting too old for those tests.
I must say I've been hit harder by American sensei.
I've also kicked things harder than a parking meter, Vans leg for example in the torture chamber.

Hi Van,
My grandfather played semi-pro soccer in Scotland before coming for the "streets of gold".
You couldn't hurt his legs. They didn't use shin guards in those days and kicked each other in the shins and knees for their warm up.
He did have a limping problem in his seventies from it.
He could have walloped a few parking meters I'm sure.

Right on Fred

Nothing beats the natural conditioning and explosive power of soccer legs. The kicks are lethal, the reason why they cannot be thrown above waist level in the 'mix' [dangerous play] _earning the kicker serious penalty.
You don't see soccer players with chicken legs_ they could never survive the field 'battles'_
Your grandfather was quite the man.

Title Ignorance
Breyette Sensei, Seizan, has gently corrected an error on my part ...
BTW, Mattson Sensei has been Kyudan for some years now, 6 or 7 I think. I
believe you mention him as Hachidan.
Good question best answered by a doctor. Blood cloths are no fun.2Green wrote:Yeah, I have varicose veins on the back of one of my calves.
Often wondered if some kind of clot-damage could incur from them being kicked.
Any thoughts on that?

Should look into it, Neil, before you continue with leg pounding.
