The future of Junior Uechi tournaments in New England

Post by Rising Star »

Well from the lack of interest in becoming a certified offiicial and from the number of responses from folks interested in becoming a tournament promoter, it would appear that the NE Junior Series is dead. I wish I could paraphrase Mark Twain and say that the rumor of the series death is greatly exaggerated but sadly I don't feel that is the case. :(

A couple of options have been discussed among the very few who would like to see competition continue, including some type of 'karate league' in which dojos would compete against each other, advancing the winners towards an eventual championship.

I will be soliciting views and thoughts from the Uechi community and creating, at least, a broad outline of how such a series might work.

In the meantime, I will continue to wait - without holding my breath or any other biological function - in hopes that a future promoter or two rises up like a Phoenix so that we can continue the series.

Regardless, certified officials are going to be necessary to make any form of competition work and I remain available to assist in that endeavor wherever it arises.

Alas, my continued requests, implorements, hopes have gone unheeded, non-responded......

Even the requests for input on a revised competition system have gone without a reply.

I wish all the future Uechi masters the best and hope that they will find the competitive mix they need to stay motivated in the art.

all the best,

John
