Found this little tidbit on the 'Net.. Al, can you comment on this law, from the IUKF perspective?

From:
Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 272. CRIMES AGAINST CHASTITY, MORALITY, DECENCY AND GOOD ORDER.

Chapter 272: Section 36A. Sporting events; penalty for abuse of participants and officials.

Section 36A. Whoever, having arrived at the age of sixteen years, directs any profane, obscene or impure language or slanderous statement at a participant or an official in a sporting event, shall be punished by a fine of not more than fifty dollars.
:agrue:

Maybe the threat of a $50 fine will keep the really abusive people quiet!

Maybe a sign, conspicuously posted the entrance to each tournament, quoting this law, and saying "Violators will be silenced"
:2gunfire:

Happy New Year!

Gene and the group:

This is a lot like the anti-spitting laws, and the lewd cromagnon should be silenced but who dares do this? The dare is not the fear of this geek; it is the consequence of any civilian (who in effect would make a citizens arrest) and ACLU types screaming "assault" and "free speech"

This would have to be enforced by a LEO, and until I see more, I would advise the IUKF officials to politely warn the person and if ignored to call the local police.

Many events, to keep in line with local rental requirements for events, hire a police detail, in which case, the local PO detail person would deal with it.

I will bring up the statute on my computer and report back if any further comments seem adviseable.

Chapter 272 contains a host of crimes and once on the books, seem never to go away.

Hi Alan:

Thank you for your input and legal guidance... I am in total
agrement with you. As a seasoned tournament promoter
myself. I know and understand the importance of hiring
a police detail for my tournament. The $300 dollars
it will cost me for the police detail for the entire day. Is worth
every cent...

The police just stand around,,, BUT their presence alone is
a major deterrent for stopping trouble before it starts. Many
new and inexperienced tournament promoters try to cut costs
and save money by not hiring the police detail. This is a bad
business move,,, but they will learn that over time...

Take Care ...

In one of Joe P.'s recent fights, a near riot almost boke out between two competing schools. One school apparently thought their fighter got a bum rap on a split decision by the refs. Quick intervention by The Mass. Boxing Commissioners as well as the cops in attendance headed off any serious trouble.

And if the paid detail P.O. only needs to stand around, and not intervene in any trouble, then money well spent.

But if/when you need him, you're real glad he's around!

As much as I ike the ACLU...

Private facility and private tournament. Therefore the ACLU doesn't have a case.

Gene: ACLU types are not necessarily bad. I do not refer to the association but merely hyper-sensitive awareness and reaction to aspects of freedom of speech.

A recent case jumps into my mind concerning a man who was in a small boat in a lake bleeting our loud obscene statements, and the attempt to prosecute him.

Did you happen to take a look at the Blasphamy section (it's in the Chapter 272 section 30's)

There is a real un-enforced statute!

That is a great one for separation of church and state.

It is also a sin in the Old and the New Testament.

A web site that I have not seen in a long time is rampant with the weird but unrepealed regulations and statutes of the various states and cities.

The first one that pops into my head is the right to graze cattle in Boston Common.

I think the ACLU has redeeming qualities as well.

The Blashemy law caught my eye as well. What's interrestng is that they last time the law went before the SJC, the law was held to be Constitutionally valid!

As for the Penalty for Abuse of Participants and Officials law, it was enacted in 1963 and I have full confidence in it's Constitutionality. Wonder if it's even been challenged? But, again, if we're talking a private facility or a private tournament/group then Constitutional protections do not apply.
